I went with the Thompson, because that it still they funnest thing I've ever shot. However, I could also go for a grease gun, a Glock 18, an M2 carbine or a BAR.

Really, anything with a happy switch would make me happy.

I gotta call BS on the BAR barrel getting red hot after a couple of mags.
If it got that hot, it would burst, as the heat treat would be ruined.
Plus, it would cook off ammo long before it got that hot.
No offense, but do you actually know what red hot means?

I'm sorry you don't believe me, but that's what happened. A shame, too, because I really liked the idea of the gun before I actually took it out shooting. After 2-3 "mag dumps," one after the other, the barrel literally glowed red. (Ammo doesn't cook off in a BAR with a hot barrel because the weapon fires from the open bolt.)

The BAR is no good for sustained fire. It has to be fired in short bursts, with plenty of time for cooling in between. The original design provided for either semiautomatic or full automatic fire, and there was actually a proposal within the Army after WWI to issue it in semiautomatic only. (That proposal came to naught because there was an ongoing development process for a semiautomatic rifle, which eventually led to the M1 Garand.) The BAR had the role that it did in WWII simply because of a lack of anything better in the inventory. The German MG34/MG42 was light-years better.

I voted Thompson, because there is just SOMETHING about shooting a full-auto .45ACP.

Couple of others I like...got to shoot an MP-40 a couple of years back. I like it better than the current crop of 9MM "Buzz guns". Also shot the M3 "Grease Gun", but my favorite is still the Thompson.

ok....

i really like how versatile the M16 is
i really like the selector method of the Steyr Aug

but i'd have to stick with a SMG. so.... either the M11/9 with a Lage Upper (already bought one and know they're G2G), MP5 or most likely, my first choice would be what i call the "Swiss Mac" the BT MP9

BAR made by Colt.

Yes they DO get hot. Still may favorite FA weapon ever. Practical? NO. Expensive to feed? YES. Low capacity? YES. Historical YES.

Have to say the MP 40 is one of the most controllable I ever fired. The Uzi was a close second.

For practicality, the M16/M4 because of the ability to change calibers.

For pure historical class, the Thompson.

For personal collecting reasons, the Finnish Suomi KP-31.

Why no one has picked G36 or Aug?

I see that they both have a pick. I am actually a little surprised that no one has picked the Beretta 93R.

Personally, I just don't like the looks of the G36; and the AUG just wasn't anything special when I shot a semi-auto version, so I have no desire for a select fire version.

Other: HK registered trigger pack. That way I get the versatility of being able to run it on multiple hosts. Those hosts, ranging from $1-$3k each, would be a pittance in comparison to the cost of the trigger pack. On top of that I would only have to worry about swapping the hammer spring and ejector lever to run it on different caliber weapons. Easy Peasy.

Maybe not such a fair answer since the question was "which full auto weapon" but in the end, the ATF treats registered sears and trigger packs as firearms...

The seriously cool thing about the Aug (unless I'm mistaken) is how the selector works - for semi auto, you pull the trigger lightly, only using the first portion of its stroke. For full auto, pull it all the way to the rear.

This is what I've heard, and if its true, it makes the Aug very unique :)

I voted other, only if ammo was free and abundant.

My pick? GAU-12 equalizer. 4200 rounds per minute of 30mm. I'd mount it to my gocart.
