I have a dilemma and need opinions..
have a trade offer for my g19(my only ccw gun, getting my license in the next couple months)
The offer is my g19 +150.00 cash, for a 1999 Springfield 1911 loaded stainless( i would rate the gun at very good to excellent, slight idiot mark and very tiny scratch on the frame) I checked the gun over slide to frame fit is tight, frame rails are straight and barrel has no bulge or wear marks, as far as i can tell should be a good gun.
If i decide to pass on this deal because the g19 is my only ccw gun right now, will i be kicking myself later?

Thanks all...

Well...some things to think about

I have no knowledge of the value of a 1999 SA Loaed...I know new ones go for 700-800ish I believe:

1. A Gen4 G19 can be had easily from just about any vendor or any gun show
2. You don't have your permit yet....so no point on counting on this gun as your carry gun without a permit

Is there something about the 1999 model of the Loaded you're looking for? Like I said for about the cost of your G19 and $150 cash you can buy a NEW Loaded....let alone one that's nearly 15 years old and who-know how much he used it.

It might be worth it if you a 1911 fan and want to carry it. Personally I would not carry a 1911 they are too big and heavy. I carry a g19 and that is big as I would go as far as a carry gun.

Think about - why is the guy willing to trade a gun plus cash that should be worth more than a G19 by itself. Too good to be true? Probably is. On paper you should be giving him cash. Smells fishy to me. That's all I'm saying.

I would only bite if I got to shoot the 1911. A couple boxes of trouble free rounds and I'd be tempted to go for it. Buy a new Glock and you have two great shooters.
Without extra cash in my pocket to combine for a new G19, I wouldn't go for it. While you could go through the trouble of selling the Springfield then buying a new Glock, but after you invest the time and energy of swapping your Glock, selling the Springfield, buying a new Glock, and wringing it out to your satisfaction, will it have been worth it to come out ahead a couple bills? I don't know, but hopefully framing it this way helps.

The G19 is a much better carry piece than just about any 1911. I think you will come to regret it if you do that trade...

I gathered from the OP that the deal was his G19 & $150 for the Springfield not the other way 'round. BTW, I would not make that deal. A lightly used Gen4 G19 will bring $550 (as much as a brand new one) around here these days.

Fotno, thanks for pointing that out. With that in mind, it's not a deal I'd be likely to bite on. YMMV.

new trade offer

Thanks for the help. The 1911 deal is off, not to my liking..
new offer on the table: s&w m&p 9 full size, week old unfired in box with 3 mags +$100 cash for my g19. Reason i am considering this is because i dont really care for the grip on the glock, however i do like the grip on the m&p. I can live with the size of the m&p because i wont be using this as ccw, the cash i get out of this deal will go towards ccw gun! Question-will the m&p be as reliable/durable as the glock, or am i stepping down a notch in that department? Thanks.

Why didn't he just go out and buy a G19 if he was going to get an unfired M&P for trade?

Just to be clear, you're saying his M&P + 3 magazines + $100, for your G19? That sounds like a good deal to me (especially because I'd rather have a M&P over a Glock anyway).

The M&P should be reliable. From what I understand, Glock, Springfield XD, S&W M&P, and Ruger SR should all be about on par with each other in most respects.

Now that's a trade I'd make iff'n I were in your shoes. Glocks just don't fit everyone's hands, so if you like the M&P better it really should be a no-brainer.

My understanding is he wanted a g19. The store didnt have one so he settled for a m&p.
i understand that the m&p had some issues with the mag and magwell being to big or the mags ejecting prematurely. Is that a thing of the past?

IT sounds like you are not enemored to your G19. If you like the M&P, go for the trade if he is throwing in $100.

Wow he is trading a new in box gun that retails for $500-$550 for a used gun which retails for $500-$550 and giving you an extra magazine and $100.

If you don't want your G19, I'd say it would be a huge mistake not to take that deal.

OP: It's a hobby. Be happy. The trade value favors you. Glocks are easy to replace and they're all alike.

The M&P is a wonderful pistol. Mine ran for who knows how many rounds until the extractor notch filled with gunk with only cursory cleanings the entire time. That is a good trade, I hope you take the deal.:D
