Yeah, this is nothing more than your garden-variety gun buy-back. The only thing that is remarkable is the photo of the really nice revolver. Such a shame. It looks like a mint condition S&W Model 60 to me.

I do wonder, however, about a news item that says a Lorcin .380 is "worth" about $400. I'd say it was worth whatever they got in return for it at the buy-back point.

Here's the link:

These things just eat at me. And the fact that they call them "buy-backs" is salt in the wound. The way it's stated infers that the firearms were the PD's or governments in the first place. Only by their benevolence were the firearms allowed in our hands in the first place, but apparently they were mistaken and are attempting to correct their horrible folly. Heaven forbid there should be "guns in the streets". These "buy-backs" are the most insulting to our freedom waist of tax dollars I have ever seen. Everything about it craps all over the second amendment.

That Smith is a terrible loss.

the real pity is someone was stupid enough to sell it for a $25 gift card

So, how does the PD know it was "successful"? Seriously, did crime suddenly stop happening in the city? It's only been a few days.

Or, if the agenda was simply to collect guns, then why is only 29 considered "successful"?

There are about five Bealls Outlet stores in my near vicinity, plus the main Bealls store itself. They have decent prices, but I can't think of anything in them I'd trade a gun (at its full value, let alone 50 bucks) for.

Since more people are killed in car accidents do they also hold a car "buy-back" program? I mean they should, cars are used to get drunk and drive home in and seriously harm or kill people and ruin families.

:D

The "buy back" was a success cause we know some LEO's was able to take home some nice pieces for their own collections. I do not believe all those guns get processed for destruction, the chance of a freebie is to tempting :D

So what happens if a legally-eligible person with ready cash stands around nearby with a sign saying he'll buy guns "back" for more money in a private transaction?

Would this be a "gun buy-back" loophole? :D

iv always wondered the same thing. i would assume tho knowing how the police are now days, they would probably arrest you with some sort of trumped up charge, like disturbing the peace or harassing an officer.
people have been arrested just for filming or take a photo of police while they are arresting a person or doing an "investigation". despite the fact that there are no laws against it.

The "buy back" was successful for the guy that just got a murder weapon disposed of by the local PD no question asked, and even got $25 as a bonus.

I may be planning on getting rid of my revolver for the sake of only having one model of pistol, but I'm not selling it for $25. I'm either giving it to my folks as a gift or I'm selling it for what its actually worth.

I'm not happy that there are less guns on the street, personally. Happygeek is right about the free disposal of murder weapons.

Wait, so stolen murder weapons are disposed of by the cops and they give you money???
wow, did they think, well maybe a better though would be do the cops running these have a though in their heads?

I like the idea of a buy back buy back program, a group of well intended and responsible gun owners buy back the buy backs before the cops, nice additions to collections, and still great savings! I'm sure it wouldn't fly but a guy can dream right!

JSpear, they auction off cars that were impounded, why can't they auction off guns that were used in crimes and collected as evidence? It's not as if the convicted felon will have a use for them.

Yoda, we CAN... we just call it 'gun BUY' (no 'back'). We might even go so far as to start a web site where we can buy/ sell guns and gun stuff, and talk about them, whaddaya think? You never know... it could work!

I've thought about this, but I'd have to be very leery of every seller, and screen them as best as I could. I'd be concerned about possibly ending up with a "hot" one (stolen, or wanted in connection with a criminal investigation.)

they had private gun buy back in same parking lot in Austin, TX... they offered $400 for EBRs and got to cherry pick what they bought... and donated them to single women and offered chl training for them as well.

Arizona passed a law that confiscated firearms be sold off to private purchasers.
It's not a "buy back", as noted before, as the government never owned those firearms originally - it's a partially compensated voluntary confiscation.

Armored, I believe that the 'buy back' gun can't be resold, as they take them solely to destroy them, my point is a smart department would strip them then destroy the frame, selling the rest as parts.

As for counter buys, they have been done, expect some hot cops, know your ordinances, make sure YOU are trespassing, as the cops would love to serve a trespass notice on the counter buy to make them go away, you can't block the sidewalk etc.

make sure you have video etc. and the pat answer "I am exercising my First Amendment Rights (to exercise my second...)" Remember, you can't walk down the street naked... UNLESS you are doing so to protest as a expression of your constitutionally protected rights.

I'm sure you would get some cheap guns yelling 'Don't let the City rip you off, it's worth more than X'

Funny how all the "buy-back" guns were on the street. I've never seen a gun on a street. I just looked out front and there were no guns in sight.

Amazing how city leaders are able to continually do this without public ridicule. Guess you can fool some of the people all of the time.
