Opinions on American Classic 1911

Stick with the Government model, they are by far the most reliable of the Metro Arms 1911's offered. I'm not saying that the Commander and Amigo models are bad, but from the research I have done the Government models have almost no negative reveiws, while the shorter ones seem to definately be more of a gamble.
I owned one of the first 1,000 Government models made for a few years, and it was amazing in all aspects. It was reliable (never a malfunction of any kind in over 1,200 rounds), accurate, had the smoothest slide action I have ever felt on a 1911 (felt like it rode on ball berrings), had beautiful blueing, and I really liked that a 1911 in that price range had a forged slide.
I ended up trading mine as I was never going to carry an all steel full size 1911 because of the weight, and also I got a georgous customized Browning Hi Power in trade. But never the less it was an awesome 1911, and at one point I even elected to keep it over a perfectly reliable Springfeild Armory Loaded model because of the way it ran.

Good luck, and obviously I am fully endorsing the Government model if you did not catch that! LOL!

My Commander size has been flawless and impressive. I've owned a number of 1911's , but none of them, including the three Colts, were as accurate out of the box. The slide fit and barrel lock up is perfect. Finish is comparable to higher end guns, and much better than any of the other low priced examples.

If they are all built as well as mine they should be a lot higher on everyones list of "to buy".

I get tired of 1911's shells hitting me in the head.

I have one of the Deluxe models, never had a problem and is a very nice looking 45 IMO

My bil has one, you wont be disappointed with the full size GI. That said I got aN Armscor Military full size and prefer it to his and my taurus and Springfield I sold the Springfield to fund some 22 goodness.

Either way you cant beat a 1911 for fun. Make an informed decision and enjoy!

I really like my ACII, only have put 500 rds thru it so far but it hasn't failed me once. Shoots where I aim it and the fit and finish is excellent. Here's a pic for ya:

I've got the Commander model and have run several hundred if not a thousand rounds with no problems. It is as accurate as I am or better.

I've got a two of these fabulous pistols, an American Classic II and an Amigo both in the hard chrome. They are soooo coool and shoot like a dream! The trigger on my ACII is the best out-of-the-box 1911 trigger I've ever felt.

I would personally save a few more dollars and go with a big name (S.A. for example.) Or, if you're on the cheap, go with a Rock Island instead. They have a far better established record for reliability.

I have a ACII and I love it. I own other budget and midrange 1911s- a Mil-spec, a citadel, and Colt commander. Sold the colt cause it was a headache (bought it used and colt wanted nothing to do with it).

For the money, comparing it to the Mil-spec and the citadel- it is hands down the best out of box 1911 of the 3.

I just ordered an RIA tactical, but haven't taken possession yet so I can't compare those models. However, I suspect either the RIA or the ACII would serve you VERY well.

AC1911, are those VZ grips?

Yes, Operator 2s in dirty olive.

I got black/grey FRAGs on my SA Mil-Spec; I only had heard of VZ recently.

If you having trouble finding American Classic only around 500 a month total of all models coming in country. Their trying to improve that number and still maintain the quality .

Get both. I've always wanted a true commander and everyone needs at least one full size 1911. David

They are nice guns. I believe the ATI to be slightly superior in fit, finish and value. Both are superior to a RIA IMO.

I haven't fired one, but held one and it was several notches above the RIA Tactical I had at the time in terms of overall feel of quality and fit n' finish. Dare I say almost indistinguishable from my Colt. I can't speak about their customer service though--RIA/Armscor will be a tough act to follow in that regard.

I've owned a few RIA tacticals. The hard chrome AC has much nicer machine work than RIA's I owned. I never had any issues with the RIAs other than all of them were a little tight with the extractor tension. I do believe RIA is a much more established company now than Metro Arms currently is. You can IM RIA's customer service on a 1911 forum and get a fairly quick response.

My Ruger seems to be great but was a few hundred more than the commander and Rugers are really hard to come by right now. Good luck with your decision. David
