Have been researching the American Classic 1911. Very few in stock from online retailers and don't want to miss out if it's a good pistol. I see good reviews on several sites. Anyone have any info?

Help always appreciated.

I bought this AC Commander two weeks ago as an entry level 1911 and had it out once putting 100 rounds through it. No malfunctions and I was hitting my 12"x12" steel targets at 20 and 25 yards. I still need to shoot it off the bench to see how it groups. Fit and finish are good and the price was right $499.00 plus tax.

Today I had a chance to handle and American Classic, a Remington R1, a Para Expert, and a Colt Combat all at once. If there were no markings on the guns I would wager most people would have picked the AC as the best of the group. There was ZERO play in the frame to slide fit, NONE. The barrel hood did not move AT ALL when you pushed on it and the the only slop at all was the slightest vertical movement of the barrel at the bushing. The finish wasn't quite as nice as some of the others but the polishing of the barrel and feed ramp were easily the best of the bunch. The feed ramp was a fine mirror where the feed ramp of the Para wasn't polished at all. The trigger of the AC was also the nicest of the group or at least tied with the Colt. The safety could have been a touch more positive when engaging but it was perfect disengaging. Both of the Paras in the case had awful feeling safeties. While the Colt was a really nice 1911 I can't see justifying another 600 dollars over the price of the AC for it. The AC was listed at 498.00. I really think some model of the American Classic will me by next 1911.

I know nothing of the AC, but they look good. You may consider waiting to see how the new Ruger 1911 pans out...

I also have an early one and it has been amazing! Like jon in wv said, mine has zero play and slides like it is on ballberrings. It has fed and fired everything I have tried, but I decided to dress mine up into my "affordable custom" so I have added the following touches: Wilson Combat 2 peice FLGR, Colt 5" SS Enhanced barrel, Ed Brown chain link MSH, SA SS barrel bushing. All mods fit perfect with no play or excess room as this pistol is built exactly to Colt specs.
Love this 1911!

I was going to get a SR1911 but I don't see what I would be getting for the extra money other then "made in the USA". I haven't decided it that's worth the difference to me. It may be, but the AC is a heck of a deal.

Here are pics of my Commander stripped down.
