OK, it's time for all the NC THR members to sound off about a shoot. Propose dates and locations and assemble the masses for funnin' and gunnin'.

Oxford, NC (The Range I believe) has already been offered up by Taipei Personality. Frank has plenty of room up there and as long as we're not infringing on a competition, I don't forsee a problem. Any other suggestions?

Times and dates are wide open at current.

Sounds good!

I moved to NC from WI last fall (for grad school at Duke), and I'm still looking for a place to shoot and people to shoot with.

What sorts of dates were you thinking of? next month? next 3 months?
School keep me very busy until May 1, and I'm away, getting married in WI, in July.

We'll probably be aiming for something in April, but there's nothing stopping us from planning something after that as well.

I'd love to go, as well as I have a couple of friends attending NCSU that have showed interest when I mentioned it to them.

Does anyone here actually have access to any land upon which we could shoot? IMHO that would be preferable to a formal firing range setting, and much more conducive to friendships being formed.

I propose a date of June 6th as the first "NC Good 'ole boys get-together."

Where?
Not sure.

Well, Frank Glover runs IDPA matches every first and second Sunday every month, and a 3 gun match every third. So shooting on a Sat or the last Sunday of the month is the way to go if shooting at The Range. Which by the way a really nice set up, and I hear that they did some improvements a while back and made it even nicer. I also heard that Frank shut down The Range from public use and have to ask first to use it on the weekdays, but this is only through the grape vine word. It's been a lone time since I was last there, but it is a great place to hold a shoot. Then there's The Durham Pistol and Rifle Club. Have not shot out there yet but if anyone has a membership there please sound off. Then there is the PHA range over by Salisbury that's real nice but crowded on weekends I think. Might have to ask 1911Tuner about that one, he's in winston-salem and would know what kind of situation that would be. Yes, the best way would be shooting out on some land but I have no contacts right now that have any near by. I know of one out in Boone (if i ever can get ahold of him), but that's a hike for some shooting, for those that live in the triangle. Eveything else is pay for range time, ($15-$20) like Davi's, Range-1, PDHSC, and Jim's.:barf:

Any other ideas, because The Range is looking pretty good for a Saturday of shooting.

OK folks the response has been dismal to say the least. Come on NC shooters. SOUND OFF LIKE YOU GOT A PAIR!

Hey, gimme a break, I just got here to THR after tracking down Shotgun moderator Dave McC to his digital digs (I lost him when GunSpot went away, while I was 'away'). Just now getting out of the scattergun box a bit and looking around. Any of you Triangle folks members at SSI, maybe?

Thanks, duckfoot. SSI has a great facility, I've visited there. Hope you do join, I think you'd like it. Don't know how their rules would address a gathering like this though.

If anything in central- eastern NC begins to come together, don't keep it a secret. I'd like to be there...

I'm Game... When and Where?

Way up here in Surry County, But I'll drive to Durham if need be. Might even bring my sister, who needs to see how nice gun people can be. I'll even bring some down-home cooking if ya'll are hungry.

Very impressed with the inteligence and well reasoned postings I've seen here so far. That's why I joined this group. Have recomended same to several friends, one of which runs a local interest group for survival skills on Yahoo:

Should anyone be so inclined.

Just let me know when and where, and what to bring.

Mayberry, AKA Mt. Airy

Billy Sparks, I live in Mt. Airy, just below the NC/Va state line here in Surry. Come to Winston just about every Sat night in summer to races at Bowman Gray Stadium. Used to shoot at Grandview Arms range, but closer and more convient for me to use Gun Country (formerly Pop's Gun Shop) which has a decent indoor range. Prefer outdoor shooting weather permitting, we have a nice new place near Elkin called Windy Hill Trading Post, with 2 open gun ranges, 50, 100 yd. targets and a brand new Skeet shooting tower. Nice people running the show, too. Recomend either place to you or anyone else visiting Surry County. Should you get up this way, would be happy to treat you to an afternoon shoot.

Ramius.

Ramius, I still shoot at Grandview, matter of fact getting ready to head out there right now.

I have a couple of friends that live in the Mt. Airy area, but I am more familar with the Elkin/State Road area of Surry. Have family up there. I am wanting to check out Windy Hill if I can ever get a weekend to ride up there.

I guess you heard about Dave of Dave's Guns? If not read page B2 of Friday's Winston-Salem Journal.

RoyG,

Shoot pistols out at Guns Plus on Bragg Blvd--friendly staff and the cleanest, best lit, best ventilated indoor range I've ever been to. However, most my shooting is out at my landlords property--75 acres.

Windy Hill Gun Store

Billy-

If you've not yet been to Windy Hill, you'll be really pleasantly surprised, IMHO.

Yes, heard about Dave. Very sad, I still do not understand what happened. The local papers are short on facts and very biased. Rest in Peace, Dave.

Friend of mine MIGHT (work permitting) be up this way Friday for some fun and games, if he makes it we'll be hitting Windy Hill around 430 or so. Look for a short fat man with a Confederate Cotton Co. hat on.

Shoot straight, shoot safe.

Ramius.
