Guns and Ammo rank the top 38 states for Gun owners

Yeah, the results for this ranking are highly suspect. Good ol' Wisconsin cuts the deck right through the middle at 25. One hit was the fact that machine guns are illegal to own here, only problem that they ARE LEGAL to own here. They also said that SBR and suppressor legality is always in flux and reform is sought. What are they talking about? Wisconsin is not only good on ALL NFA items, we're also a suppressor hunting state.

So if my state's experience reflects the grading of others, yeah, stupid ranking is worthless.

I have to go along with CoRoMo, aside from Denver, prior to this latest nasty business I can't think of many states that had better all around firearms laws.
Carry laws are pretty simple compared to some of the higher places states. Pretty much stay away from metal detectors, schools, private property that doesn't want you and follow the same fed laws as everyone else. None of this silly 51%, no carry in church, parades, county fairs, bake sales, or days that end in Y.

Enjoy it while it lasts.

With Democrats in control of everything, there are no positives in the future for gun owners in Colorado

Also 19 NC requires a permit to buy a handgun and it gets higher for castle doctrine, despite PA having the same thing!
And have you ever seen NC's list of "off-limits" places? Might as well stay home.

In PA you can sit down to a nice pint of ale in your favorite watering hole without disarming first. That should count for something! :)

I'll give it an election cycle or two and see what comes of it. It will go one of two ways for certain, no way in hell it will stay the same.
Spent the last 4 months working in TX and not being much impressed but am taking the long way home and visiting my daughter in KY and if I have to quit CO I'll sure have my eye on this state regarding guns, hunting, and fishing.

MSR=Modern Sport Rifle. A more accurate term for civilian ARs than 'assault rifle'.
The preferred term seems to be "Modern Sporting Rifle." At least that is what Google indicates.

Yeah I don't know about these 'facts'. I have had a Mass CCw for over 20 years, my cousin has class 3's, again for many years. The regs about home storage is sensible if you got kids or no other securty. As for 'assault weapons from 199 whatever', the was a show last week with 800 tables and 10,000 people a day with AR's and AK's , sigs etc being NICS checked every minute, no old moldy 94's changing hands at all that I saw, but political hot potatoes were going out the door at scare tactic prices, alot of money changed hands there....btw, Mass's next 'gun control debate' will concern mental health. That's fair enough- concidering? huh???

Seems like they should have taken into account some of the hunting laws regarding firearms. I mean, I like to hunt with a lot of my guns, and other than it has to be center fire, there aren't many other regs in TX. No mag limits, no semi-auto limits and no caliber (size) limits. You can even use a supressor now.

Some questions for you. Can you ride a bike through the middle of Phoenix in the middle of the day with a rifle on your back, a handgun on your hip and ammo towed on a cart behind you, without getting inquiries from local LEO's? Have you bought tofu at the local hippie store while carrying a .450 Marlin? Have you ever met up with a Phoenix PD officer out on the street to have him pop open the cruiser's trunk and hand you an M1A out of it?

I thought so.

Alaska should be No. 1. And we are working on an SYG law, though realistically it's not needed here.

Cosmoline: In answer to some of your questions. Yes, you can cruise on your bike in downtown Phoenix with a rifle on your back and a handgun on your hip while towing a load of ammo without a hassle from LEOs.

Arizona is leading the way in gun friendly laws and immigration laws.

Glad I live here.

Yeah, but they got several details incorrect (or not fully defined):

Where do I begin? The subjects of California are restricted to one handgun purchase per 30 days,

Except for PPT which I believe are exempt.

have to live with magazine capacity restrictions

True but standard capacity magazines are legal to possess and use...

and only handguns on the “approved” list are legal for sale in the state.

New only, consignment and PPT handguns are exempt from this.

While CCWs are technically legal, good luck trying getting one.

About 40 of the 58 counties are "Shall Issue" which is significant.

There are so many restrictions on MSRs that their appearance is butchered. The state has a Castle Doctrine law, but it doesn’t apply to cars or at work.

True but this can be managed with some study. It is not as bad as out-of-staters try to make it.

Don't get me wrong, California is horrible (and likely to get worse) but it would be best to have a long-time resident comment on specifics rather than someone looking over the fence.

That is totally legal in many states.

Legal is one thing. Doable is another. That's the problem I have with a lot of these surveys. They look at paper laws instead of the gun culture. Arizona is fine, but I doubt its gun culture is as pervasive or powerful as Alaska's. D and R alike support the RKBA, so the matter is a non-issue. I'll take Begich over McCain any day when it comes to gun rights. And we have no equivalent to someone like Raúl Grijalva. Don't get me wrong. Arizona is the tip of the spear. It leads the way. But that doesn't necessarily make it the most comfortable place to be as a gun owner. I think my state should have that title.

A state where some gun or gun accessory is actually illegal makes the top 10? How can that possibly be?

;) Everyone has their own opinion of what's important and what's not.

They sure do. It's pretty much a "what directly affects me?" mentality most of the time. People have a lot easier time subjectively rating based on how much of an impact the laws have on them than on objectively ranking based on stepping back and looking at the big picture.
