I have recently gotten rid of all of my .308 rifles except for the one I just put a barrel on. I used a shilen match barrel on it. Headspace is set to an absolute minimum, but it does close on a go gauge and wont close on a no-go gauge.

That said, when I size some (but not all) of my 1x fired brass, it wont fit in the chamber. Its almost like the brass isnt getting sized down far enough or is springing back too much. My die is set down about as far is it will.. there is already considerable effort in camming over the ram.

I see it as having two options to fix this. polish off .001 at a time off the shell holder till it works consistently.. which could introduce headspace issues, OR replace my lee dies with a set of better dies.

Suggestions for dies that are known to be very good with match chambers? That full length size down to absolutely bare minimums?

You could send a piece of fire brass from your rifle to Hornady and have them custom make you a die.

For the barrel you have on the rifle that would probably be the best option for wringing accuracy out of it

How tight does the bolt close on a go-gauge?
Have you dropped a sized case into a cartridge headspace gauge?

Savage rifle? Sounds like the headspace was set a little too tight.

If it is a match chamber, you might also be dealing with a minimum neck dimension, but more likely your case shoulder just needs to be bumped back a thousandth or two until you get what you need.
I've never had an issue with my Lee dies, and they aren't the only brands that I have.

Purchase a Wilson case gauge for 308 and use it to check your brass as you file on the shell holder.

its already been done. Shell holder is .001 shorter.

MTN.. it closes easily on the go gauge, and gets about 1/4 a turn on the nogo.

It was set with the go gauge in the chamber, bolt handle down. Placed a piece of cellophane packing tape on the back of the gauge before inserting. Screwed the barrel down till contact, then tightened barrel nut. Go gauge is an easy chambering. Nogo fails, almost instantly.

I suspect that NC is right.. shoulder needed bumped back a hair more. Its good to go now. Thanks for the insight guys. Just for fun, here is a pic of the rifle in question.
