Caliber specific powder funnel?

I bought one for 223 from Saturn Machining. It worked ok, but it still spilled powder.

I am using a DIY funnel made from a 223 case. If you size a 223 case with the expander rod removed, then give it a good outside chamfer, it'll just rest in the lip of an expanded 223 case. Then you just have to cut it off at the shoulder and attach it to a funnel.

I use one of these with .223 when I even bother to weigh charges, and have never ever had a problem with it.

I have 2 Saturns, one for .223 and one for .308. No spilled powder with either one. One, I forget which, has a tiny lip that catches a minute amount of powder where the funnel meets the drop tube, but a quick "rattle" before removing it takes care of that. I keep saying I'm going to Dremel that smoother when I get a round tuit.

P.S. Never any static cling.

This is also a very nice set. I've had my set for probably six years now without any issues. All the tips have o-rings on them and there is no spillage at all.

For .223 I use a funnel made of paper. I simply taped about a 4" square into a cone shape and trimmed the result. It took a couple of tries to get the right shape and size.

The big end measures about 1.25" across, and the little end is just .18". Stick powders such as Varget pour through with just a tap of encouragement. It inserts just .25" or so into the case mouth, so I support it with one hand and pour out the scale pan with the other. No spillage, no interference with full cases.

Cost: probably less than a penny and about 15 minutes.

I have the good old Lee and two Lymans. The scale funnel that RC mentions I use a lot. The other Lyman works perfect on 223 also. They all work.

I second the Frankford Arsenal, if you get the Midway Flyer they put them on sale about once a year for 4-5 bucks off regular price.

The o ring feature makes them almost 1 piece they stay on the case and do not leak.

For .223, Satern for the win! No spills here. I previously used a Lyman (different from RC's) and it was a hassle. I plan to get a 30 caliber Satern when I am ordering stuff where I can add it.

I think I have the Saturn funnel and never use it any more. Bought a Lee die to funnel the powder in. Something about any external funnel just didn't work for me.

I have Saturn funnels in .223 and .30 cal. I prefer them when doing non-progressive powder work. No problems with spilled powder here.

Another vote for the Satern funnels. I've got them from 20 caliber on up. I've learned to give them a quick tap before I move them to the next case and any powder stuck on the sides goes into the brass.

I have one of the Saterns and will get another.

I also treasure one of the last generic aluminum Pacific powder funnels.
No wash with this or wipe with that to try to prevent static cling, it just funnels.

Now, before we start, I would like to make sure that everyone understands that I do not condone the use of a whiskey flask while reloading....

But, the stainless steel funnel previously used to fill the whiskey flask has been re-purposed for use in filling .223 and it fits perfectly. It might be a Jack Daniels brand, not sure.

Back in '69 when I started gathering all my reloading items, I bought an "Every-size fits" funnel for $2.00, still using it today, has never failed a round yet. Whats the big deal about a few kernels of powder? Sounds like a 12 Step meeting might be needed alright!

I with him, The only time I have spilled ANY powder is when I am getting tired and not paying attention and don't manage to hold the funnel neck square with the case neck,,,, Sheeez, I thought I was ocd....

My wife works in a lab so she swiped me a few small plastic funnels with tapered ends. Trimmed to the correct diameter, they work great.

I have a Herters funnel i have been using for 60 years, from 222 to 45-70, if you are having trouble with a funnel---get out of reloading!!!!!!!!! Not to believe.

huh. didnt know there were caliber specific funnels.ive used the same plastic funnel for 22 to 45 cals for years.seems to work fine tho and doesnt spill any powder.

Quick-Measure Does

They sell both their own designs (the brass ones on the upper left of the pic) and those pink ones made by MTM on the right. The caliber specific inserts are below (for the brass) and to the left for the MTM's.

Regular old Lee red plastic funnel works great for me, don't see what the fuss is.

We all have different ways of charging cases. I love the saturn funnels because I set the funnel on top of the case and run the measure the I move to the next one by sliding the loading block. No need to hold it square....also try your RCBS funnel on a .204 or a .17 Remington!! I have em for all calibers.
