Well, I said I was most likely going to get a Glock 19. I didn't want to love it. I really didn't. But I did some comparison shooting first.

Today was the Smith & Wesson M&P 9mm, Beretta Px4 Storm 9mm and the Glock. Really fine handguns. I wanted to love the S&W. It looks..sexy to me..LOL

But looks and shooting ability (by the shooter tells the tale). Is one better than the other ? Not necessarily. Equally fine. But for "me", I shot pretty awesome with the Glock, fair with the Beretta and like crap with the S&W. Sigh

SO Glock 19 Gen 4...shooting straight and consistent is even sexier to me...LOL

I was the same way with the G26 - didn't wanna like it but it just shoots like a maniac. My second choice was the Beretta Px4 subcompact which after familiarization and some mods became my #1 with the G26 such a close #2 it's more like a #1.016.... :D

Can't go wrong with the Glocks for me...congrats on yer new aquisition!

VooDoo

I spent many years not wanting to like Glocks, but the G19 is an awfully attractive combination of caliber, features, price, etc.

Shoot it in good health.

I'm thinking about trading my 23 for a 19. Beware the BTF, it is prevalent in Gen4 models. I put a 20lb ISMI spring in mine and haven't had any problems with it since.

Can't blame you as bad as I hate glocks if I shot them better I'd pick one over the M&P if I had to. Good news sig has the 320 coming out soon, so I'm holding off on my next striker fired 40.

No secret handshake yet

But I can strip it pretty easy...LOL

I didn't want to like it for two reasons.

1) Its boxy
2) Glock Glock Glock...almost like a status symbol, label guy kind of thing

But after testing, I had to appreciate the allure. For me, it shoots consistent. every guy at my range (that work there) either carry a Glock or recommended it. Some seem to like the Springfield XD and still recommend the Glock.

And what's not to like about a gun that can go in mud, sand, talcum powder, water and still shoot ? LOL

Now a question...I tend to be a shoot at the range and clean when I get home guy. I use CLP to clean and lube and Hopes for the fine points. Is that overkill or good practice to keep it clean and lubed ?

I've had a gen2 G19 for nineteen years. It has been nothing but reliable. I understand why some folks don't like 'em, but it's fine with me.

Welcome to the darkside. Just kidding, glad you went with what you shot best. I have a 19 and love it, for how it works and it shoots the best for me of the handguns I own. I took a lot of heat from my friends who are very big SIG fans, but at least I have a excuse if I miss since their SIGs are so much better (and for them they do tend to be). We were shooting at clay pigeons yesterday at 30 yards had some good back and for banter going on.

On cleaning, I clean mine after every time I shoot it since it's my CCW. Just because it can shoot when it's super dirty does not mean you should never clean it.

Congrats on your Glock and I think you made a nice choice. It should serve you well.

Thanks folks

And Hometeached (hometaught ? lol)

Good to know ...I don't want to be obsessive but all I ever read about people who rely on their firearms ensure they are clean and operational.

It's very close to the perfect gun, I am without one now, but have a 26 for many years, the 19 is the best all around gun even though I am looking at H&K's and 1911's for a larger hd gun, the reset and trigger on the 19 plus the size makes it hard to beat. The H&K is almost 3 times the price, and really doesn't do much more for the money.
The P30. Other than that you can't really beat it for the money, I looked at CZ's and would consider the P01 if I could find one, but only the 06 seems to be available from the 50 gun stores and sights I have looked at, it seems like they were around 6 months ago and are gone now.
The M&P needs an Apex job, as the trigger still sucks. I tried the PRO and the CORE, and they aren't much better.

What's not to like about a Glock 19? A very reliable pistol in a very compact and easy to use package. Great choice.

I have a second gen G-19 that was a used police gun. Think I got it sometime in the early 90's. I had a couple lite primer strikes the other day. Cleaned out the channel and put in a new striker spring. At that rate it should last me for the rest of my life. I have thought of a new 19 but then again why? I don't need the finger grooves that bad.

I was recently looking to add a non-Glock in 9mm and was deciding between CZ75 BD and SigSauer P226 Mk-25. I shot these two and a bunch of others at the range (XD, S&W) and ended up getting G19 Gen 4 as I shot it best and it fits in my hands so well despite having large paws. I've shot 1000+ rounds thru it since and it's a real tack driver - I shoot it better one handed than I do my G20 with a death grip, especially with quick follow up shots.

The G19 is an excellent choice. I have its 40S&W twin, the Gen4 G23, and like pretty much everything about it. Most of the time it's just the right size vs. capacity. For warm weather CCW I do have its baby brother and later you might also feel drawn to the G26 for the same reason.

Ahhh..which brings me to...Should I replace the extractor with the APEX kit ? Should be easy to do and BIG thanks to the guy who made a youtube video on how easy it is...can do it during a cleaning....LOL

My wife sort of values my face...and hot brass can be pretty annoying...trust me...had a guess brass shoot down my short the other day...YIKES...

Ouch, brass down your shirt must not feel good. I've had someone at a public range shooting to my left land a .22LR casing down the side of my shoe (thankfully I was using binoculars to to see where I had hit on the target so I didn't have a firearm in my hand).
