If you can use gunbot.net. I have it open on a webpage at work and check it frequently. I was able to score 10lbs of Power Pistol and 10lbs of Bullseye at $18/lb from Natchez.

would you guys be mad at me if I told you that I had about #75 of pistol powder squirreled away, if so I won't say anything.

Don't get me wrong 35, if someone local is in need I will be the first to share

I gather that we don't see powder for sale because of the new prevalence of sniping powder that isn't really needed. It seems to have become a sort of compulsive game to watch Gunbot and other supplies, grabbing anything that looks remotely useful and in obscene, prepper level quantities. There just isn't enough, and now we scramble to get the crumbs. Fighting over it would seem to be the natural progression.

This is EXACTLY what w suspect. Like the gluttonous people you see at the all-you-can-eat buffets....fill their plates with more than they can eat, push it away and go back for more. Just like the .22 LR debacle...people buying it not because they need it, but because it's in short supply.

Seriously...where is the powder going? It has been long enough. I have been looking for 1 lb. of Red Dot for over a year. I may have to buy shotshells from the sporting goods department (Ugh) this year. VVtF?

That's odd - all I can find around here is Red Dot, 50BMG powder, and occasionally some medium rifle powders.

A LGS here had 30 pounds of Red Dot on the shelf, I got 2. Went back a week later, there was still some there, so I got 2 more. Since then I have seen 8 pounders three times. I am loading .45 and .38 with it, so I don't need a bunch of it.

I did manage to pick up a pound of Titegroup at a gunshow last weekend. They had 20 pounds, they all sold in <10 minutes after they opened the doors. Waiting in line for an hour pays off, sometimes.

The Reno area is real slim when it comes to pistol powders. Took a trip up to Salem, OR last week. They're worse off than here!

It's all about relationships. My local reloading shop knows what I use and when they get a load in they save it for me and others shooters that trade with them. They are retail but I have cash and stop in at least twice a month. Yeah there goods cost more than the net. But with access to powder put backs for me and bullets saved for me. It's great! I get cash discounts here and there. Not so much volume discounts. They discount bullets, powder and primers all the time for me. A set of dies at retail, next set discounted. Or they just hand me a bag on 10mm or 357 Sig brass. Good brass in there,,, enjoy. Lets us know your loads and how they did.

It's about relationships.

i have a nice little theory here.

is anyone able to figure out how many canisters of a certain brand of powder go on backorder status before the product will arrive at the stores?

almost feels like a primary distributor to retailers doesnt want to send powder to retailers until a certain volume is achieved. kinda like a lawn mower company not making lawn mowers until they presell 900,000 units.

Other than a few pounds of H335 I got from a guy no longer reloading I have not bought a pound of powder since 2008 and I will not until the prices go down. (and I don't need to either) Same thing goes for primers, I have bought none since 2008.

It's very dry here in Tulsa too. The LGS said ATK is using most of it for loaded ammo.

I've also been told that many of the sub components of gun powder are scarce for one reason or another.

I think it's all BS and people are hording it and the normal demand is higher. I recently started reloading 9mm because I could find ammo, I'm probably not the only one.

I think we need Congress to pass a bill that would make it easier/cheaper to build gun powder factories and loosen the regulations.

ATK has the govt agency contracts for the bazillion rounds. I'm betting they would have to sub out to the entire industry to meet the delivery requirements.

The government hasn't been buying more than normal Sure, DHS will set up sources for 1.6 billion rounds. Their budget will only allow less than a couple hundred million and that's all they buy. It's all about what they can get without a backorder. What they do spend on ammo and how many rounds broken down by organization is public record.

That right there is a mouthful. There are A LOT of new reloaders out there and they are grabbing up anything they can find in the way of powder because they have no powder because they are just starting out.

The good thing, many of those new reloaders will not continue to reload when ammo because available again so there will be a lot of inexpensive reloading equipment and components on the market sometime in the future.

Anyone know of any factory ammo that uses Unique? If not, that should say something

If I remember correctly, factory ammo doesn't use canister grade powder, they buy bulk in a specified burn range and blend it to suit their specs. That could be too simplified or just plain wrong, but it's what I was told years ago.

That seems very out of touch to me.

Im pretty sure the "govt is buying up all the stuff" has been pretty much debunked now. Cant quote sources but I know ive read some stuff here and there.

LGS (Austin, tx) had 12 x 1lb. of Bullseye today, so I got two; Found two x 1lbs. of BL-C2 at Cabelas couple of weeks ago,
so combine that with my leftover stash of Unique, Varget,
PB & various other rifle powders I should be good for the next year, based on how
much I shoot right now. rifle & pistol bullets aren't that hard to fine either
also have some Blue Dot for shottys

but yes, powder is hit & miss; get it while it's a hit. still no .22lr :(

I'm blaming it on you guys who advise the newbies to start out with Dillons and other progressive loaders. They get those things going and Wow! 1000 rounds loaded after supper...and it was FUN! At that rate they can go through 2 or 3 lbs. of Bullseye a week...more if they're loading Unique.

Then they figure they have to buy powder & components in bulk to keep the party going....whether they shoot or not. If they do shoot, they have to burn up 500 rounds in a range session so they'll have empty brass for the Dillon. It's a vicious cycle.

Loading single-stage a pound of powder might last a month or more; partly because reloading s-s is slow, tedious and not that much fun. A range session might cost 50 to 100 rounds, because it will take an evening or two to reload that much.

Once again the American tendency toward excess comes back to bite everyone in the (deleted)
