My choice would be either an FAL Variant or an M14 Variant.

I have built and fired multiples of both types but I don't think that I could choose between them ... well, maybe the FAL is a bit more fun and robust.

Assuming that the AR10 employs a direct-gas system like the AR15, I would never choose that one. I built a couple of AR15s and stopped after I decided that I was not a fan of direct impingement.

IMO, the AK system is the most robust of them all.

Good Luck & Have Fun with your decision! ... sorry that I was of absolutely no help. ;)

I've owned just about every 308 semiauto available, and my current fave is the DPMS G2 AR pattern.

personal taste , id got with a vepr in 308 in a heart beat.

the ar10 should be more accurate(defiantly after the vepr warms up). but its still just another ar15 just in a different caliber

the vepr is the highest quality of all Ak's the vepr is not very common like other AK mfg's . they like the more common saigas are now banned and will probably remain as such for ever. replacement parts will be very hard to find, if not impossible.

if your desire is for accuracy and consistency get the AR10 no doubt about it
if you want something different and in the future , quite possibly collectable get the vepr.

I have a bushmaster 308 orc weighs about 7 1/2 pounds empty most parts are interchangeable with dpms there are a couple of other brands that use this platform so there are aftermarket parts avialiable furniture triggers will interchange with ar 15 not other parts won't armilite only fits armilite Rick river only fits rock river , pmags fit bushmaster, dpms and a couple more rock river uses dal mags I believe and armilite uses their own I like choices my gun is accurate runs reliably it is not a piston gun it direct impengment I don't mind also cost about 1200

I always wanted an AR10. Long story short, I had to get a detachable box fed 308 before a certain date and the only thing available without getting price gouged was a DSA FAL. At 1st I didn't like it, but the more I shot it the more I liked it. That little FAL grew on me and it's now on the top of my list of toys I take to the range.

The AR10's I'm sure are wonderful rifles too, but I'm a FAL fan now.

My vote do what i did buy a scar 17s and never look back. I own a AR 10, CETME, and have owned a FAL. The Scar is top of the food chain. I do plan on getting a M14 though.

I voted 'other'. IMI Galil in .308 would be my suggestion, but tough to come by. Took me years to find one affordable and in good shape. Barring that, M1A or SCAR heavy.

because fn doesn't want to sell us a scar H-PR in europe, I stay with my FAL
(surplus Lee-Enfield L1A1 with original SUIT optic)

I voted other my vote would be a Ruger it is a quality gun and lots of accessories are available if you want to hang lots of stuff on your rifle

I went Vepr. If I did it over again, I'd go PTR91F. Cheap mags, as accurate if not moreso than my Vepr, and nearly as reliable.

M1 Garand from the CMP. Best deal going right now on a semi .30 cal.

Agree with that, but the first two options listed by the OP strongly indicate that he's looking for a .30-cal fed by a detachable magazine.

I would probably go with the Ruger SR-762. I am not sure whether or not it is truly considered an AR-10, considering it it is piston operated rather than DI.

I got to handle one recently and really liked the feel.

other-M1A-had one for 20 years-then had to sell it:cuss:
Fit my 6'4 frame well-pussycat on recoil-standard grade would do MOA if I did my part...
