An ak classic and an ar I would want in between the two. I would want some enhancements like optics and handguards but not all the lights and lasers that no one uses

For an AK I would go classic all the way. It's probably just me, but I think that an AK is one of those guns that shouldn't have plastic anything.

For an AR, I would go classic too. A red dot is about the furthest I would go.

I'll put on them what is useful to me.

I couldn't care less how other people happen to outfit their rifles

I prefer classic, my 3 favorite rifles are collectivley 190 years old. When I head to a coyote blind in the dead of winter, I'm wearing: t shirt, long sleeve t, sweat shirt, and a down coat. The collapsible stock on my AR carbine insures a proper cheek weld. I choose the best tool for the job.

I perfer the look and feel of wood that is part of the reason I have a Mini 14 in .223 rather than an AR15:barf: my preference is to keep in simple ,and the taticool stuff kind of gets away from that.:banghead:I do not need/want a bunch of gizmoes hanging off the side of my weapon all of witch will need some kind of batteries adding more weight:fire: .an AK looks good with wood furnature ,almost every firearm looks better with a nice looking wood grips or stock from a 1911 .45 acp to a shotgun or rifle wood adds a warmth and a contrast to the blued steel thats hard to bea:Dt. I can understand why the synthetic stocks are popular, they are indestructable, and wont absorb moisture, but I like wood

For me its not about the looks, or even the weight, I simply don't use things that rely on batteries on firearms (I keep a flashlight with me, but not attached to my gun). My eyes aren't getting any younger, and any rifle I have that I intend to hit something with, has an optic, so there's glass on every rifle I own. I don't own any AK's or AR's anymore, but someday I hope to get another AR, and it will have a scope, that's it.

False dichotomy, IMO. Any rifle I own that might serve in the HD role will have a light, which means at least a small rail section, I prefer an optic over iron sights, and I prefer an adjustable stock instead of a fixed-length stock.

My AK had wooden furniture and a Kobra. My AR has standard A2 handguards but a Surefire light on a small rail section, and an optic. I'd like a free-float tube at some point, but have no interest in a quad rail.

And the SAR-1 (I miss that carbine):

If a firearms accessory has a function that you need, then it's not "tacticool", it's functional.

Would like a classic SP1 as a range toy, and a 11.5" Supressed SBR with a 200+ lumen light, free floated handguard and the works!

:D

False dichotomy, IMO...

This. I configure my firearms to match the job they're to perform. My Remington 700 is very simple- it has a scope, a sling and a good recoil pad. No ridiculous cartridge holder/cheek riser on the buttstock, no huge scope, no bipod or light. I like things simple.

But an AR without a sling, weapon light and an RDS doesn't meet my needs for house defense. An AR without an optic, free float tube, G trigger & sling doesn't meet my needs for a varmint rifle- and so on.

While there is a place for "Classic" configurations and I personally have no need or desire for a laser (no Crimson Trace Grips on any handguns either) there are certain accessories that do make firearms better suited for the role they fulfill

Now imo if you're gonna put optics on an AK, warsaw pact optics like the kobra or pso-1 look better

I'm the classic type. Mine is an AK47 I bought in the 80's, folding stick, bayonet, nothing fancy or elaborate. Last time I checked, the muzzle velocity is no less without all the bells and whistles.

I like all the fancy bells and whistles. I have an AK74 with rails and lights and I wouldn't go back to the classic look for anything. Having lights and foregrips attached makes the gun look so much cooler.

So long as form follows function and the function is required, I'm good with whatever might be added to the rifle.

Somehow when this principle is applied the end product looks good like a fighter jet, open water shark, race car or off road truck.

I like a classic AK, but with quality polymer furniture over wood. A fixed stock, and no rails up front. An Aimpoint micro would be welcomed but not mandatory,

Kinda the opposite.for the AR. I want an adjustable stock, Aimpoint micro is mandatory, a foregrip is mandatory, and a light certainly wouldn't be scorned.

I can't see "classic" sights, so I need some sort of modern optic. Beyond that, anything that makes the gun lighter and sleeker I am ok with. I have no use for forward rails, bayonet lugs, muzzle breaks, kitchen sinks, and the like.

I don't mind tactical if it is functional and honestly budgeting does come into play. If it makes your firearm more functional and fun to shoot go for it. If you insist on having a free floated match chamber barrel then turn around and only shoot steel case wolf because you insist on the cheapest ammo you can get then it really gets absurd. Too often people want all the bells and whistles, spend lots of money and end up with stuff they don't use and dead weight that adds bulk.
