How much junk do you drag to the range?

I was reading some of the thread about it being "Too hot to shoot" and I am feeling that about now. I got to wondering if everybody drags as much crap to the range as I do. If I take a rifle along then it's three trips from the car to the shelter/firing line for me. I take my own stand since the range stands are all shot up. My stand consists of a wooden base that will hold two poles about five feet long. Then I've got the cardboard backer. Then my large Midway Range bag that weighs a ton because it's full of 'stuff' that I might need. Then one or two pistols in their cases. So that's two trips from the car right there. Then if I bring a rifle, there's that plus a sand bag, so another trip.

So I've been wanting very much to shoot lately, but between the heat and humidity and all the junk I lug around, I've talked myself out of it more than I have into it.

How about you? Am I the only one who drags a lot of junk to the range? When I'm there I usually have more stuff than the other guys who are there. But I try to go mid-day during the week so as to encounter less shooters. So many times I'm the only one there.

I just take a range bag with ammo, oil, ear muffs, eye protection, and my gun. I pack light to the range.

When I take my G3 to the range, all that comes with me are my eyepro earpro, mags loaded, the rifle w/ case, a paper target, and that's it.

My car trunk could be mistaken for a gun store accessory rack :(

That said, what I mostly take to the bench includes spotting scope with tripod, soft cushion for a comfortable backside weld, rifle bipod when applicable, ammo, battery-operated cooling fan when mirage is high, boresnake and/or rod with patches, spent brass bag. And of course the rifle(s) with magazines. Takes about 3 trips to get it all.

A trunk full

But we have individual ranges for every discipline... big bore, small bore, pistol , etc . so I only take out what I need for the range I'm going to shoot... if I decide to shoot something else.. then I go to that range and take what I need there.. if IM going to crono... I only take it out at the range I'm testing a load.

Evil-Twin its not hard to feel up the "trunk" of a Corvette is it...sweet car BTW I loved my 02 SS till I totaled it and bought a C5 Z06

Usually, I only take one long gun per range trip or up to two handguns per range trip.

The bag I use is an Allen double pistol bag. I will loop my hearing muffs into the bag handles when not wearing them. http://products.unbeatablesale.com/the_allen_company_ls_5015_brown_double_pistol_case_1013877748.php

On handgun days, I can stuff one or two regular service sized handguns in it with multiple magazines and a few spare boxes of ammo.

On long gun days, the long gun will be in its own case or slung on my shoulder (depends on range rules). The ammo will go into that same pistol bag, minus the handguns of course. That bag will hold eight 30 round AR magazines in the pistol compartment.

That's it. One trip from the car with up to two hands full, no more than approx. 20 pounds overall weight. I usually buy the targets at the range since many of the ranges near me require using their targets. Ranges around me provide bags, spotting scopes, etc. as needed.

The junk multiplies,,,

The junk multiplies,,,
Pretty soon you have a trunk full.

I have it pared down to what I think is a bare minimum.

I use a hard-bottom tool bag for ammo and tools/accessories,,,
I keep 100 rounds of every centerfire cartridge I shoot,,,
And 500 rounds of high velocity rimfire ammo.

I also have a small set of essential tools I may need,,,
Along with two sets of glasses/muffs/plugs.

This lives in my car trunk on a permanent basis.

I have an El-Cheapo camera tripod I have a 12" by 18" board mounted on,,,
I hang a one gallon milk jug full of kitty litter from it,,,
That stabilizes it even in windy conditions.

That lives in my car trunk as well.

So all I have to do is grab the gun(s) I plan to shoot that day,,,
I'll often take another 100 rounds of 9mm,,,
I shoot that cartridge the most.

But when I get home I replenish the ammo I used that day,,,
Then put the bag back in my car for the next trip.

I use a canvas contractors tool bag,,,
Because I think they are sturdier than "range" bags.

It took a while to get my "kit" set up,,,
But now I just grab the guns I want to shoot and go,,,
Since I put this kit together I haven't left anything essential at home.

I'm an RSO, so I ensure I have some extra stuff: light trauma and first aid bag, cleaning rods, solvent, dowels, Allen wrenches of all sizes, several eyes and ears, etc. If people see the red flag behind you, they assume you have extras.

General range session...
Obviously guns, mags, maybe loose ammo (I tend to bring all the loaded mags I plan to shoot)
Ear pro for me and two others
My sunglasses (Oakley) double as eye pro
A set of Mechanix gloves
Multitool
Trauma kit and general first aid
Spare batteries for weapon lights and optics

I leave targets, tools, oil, and all that other noise at my range. I also have cheapie backup ear pro and eye pro there as well,

I'm pretty minimalistic. I bring the gun and ammo, eye and ear pro, a target ( my current range is awesome about providing stands and backers)

I keep my bow, arrows, and an archery target in the car, in case the normal firing line is too crowded.

Other than that, usually just a water bottle and first aid kit.

As little as possible under 100 yards, weapon, ammo, target, staple gun,eye and ear protection, hat and then the farther I will shoot I tend to bring a few more items, spotting scope, leadslead and golf cart to drive down range to target(health issues).

Unless I'm meeting others at the range for some big production, it's just one trip - Eyes, ears, ammo, rifles, pistol, targets. I shoot off my bag that has the essentials - stapler, cleaning rod and supplies, water bottle, etc. Although, there is an exception - if my fellow shooters are overwhelmingly generous in donating brass, I'll go back for a bucket!

I take two bags. One has ammo, mags, targets and pasters, scope, really required stuff. The second bag has all the "nice to have" stuff like first aid kit, cleaning kit, bore rod, things that I usually and rarely need so I don't have to carry then over to wherever I am going to be shooting.

If I go to the range, I take one bag containing ammo, eye/ear protection, some spare targets, and masking tape. That's all I need.

If I go out in the desert, well that's a whole nuther story. :D

I take enough, including guns, to fill up the back of my jeep wrangler. Once in awhile the passenger bay is full too. Thankfully I can back up within about 5' of the shooting benches.

If it's a multiple choice test, I'm one check-box past 'hopeless'.
The best thing I ever bought was a range-designed backpack that holds eyes and ears, miscellaneous tools, room for a box or two of ammo (which I use for .22LR), and a locked section that can hold three handguns and mags in separate containers. I also tack on a pretty comprehensive IFAK with some chest seals and tourniquet.
Then an 50 cal ammo can full of handgun ammo, and another 50 cal can of rifle ammo
Then a rifle in locked case. Or two. Or three. Each with a few mags.
Then a tool box this is a cleaning kit - it stays in the car just in case.
Then a separate zipped tool case with targets, stapler, laser sight system, torque driver, etc.
A sand bag and a heavy tripod for stabilizing long guns.
I know I must be missing something...

I store all of my necessary gear, sand bags, muff's, chronograph, tape, staple gun and stables, targets etc. in a plastic container. About 2'X3'X2' high. When I go to the range it goes in the back of the truck. Rifles, usually 5-6, go in the back seat along with a range bag full of appropriate ammo. I can be packed or unpacked in 10 minutes.

Any handguns as well as magazines and ammo for them go in a separate range bag.

When I get to the range I simply drive out to the target stands and place targets on the 50, 100, 200 or 300 yard line then drive back to the shooting area. I usually only get 1-2 rifles out of the truck at a time. I can be shooting within 10 minutes of arrival if I don't have to wait on a break in shooting to put up targets. Which is usually the case, I usually have the range to myself.

Same here. I have two bags of just "RSO" stuff. They go with me whenever I go to the range. That doesn't even include guns, ammo, targets, rests, stands, water, snacks, spotting scope, chronograph, recliners, screen and projector, computer desk, couch for short psychological sessions, PA system, proper lighting equipment and fog machine for my grand entrance, and a TV. :D

Oh, and a shovel and TP. (depending on where the range is). ;)

two guns. usually a .22 and something else. the ammo/mags for both. ear muffs. no eye protection, but i wear glasses and a hat to block anything coming down from above. a few celox packets for emergencies. i buy my targets at the range i use, since they're cheap and there's a wide selection. my keychain doubles as a bugout bag, so it has the lights/multitools/etcs.

MY pistol target frame... my brass catcher, my range bag... several boxes ( bricks ) of ammo, a spotting scope...2 sets of muffs, and a pair of binoculars... If IM shooting air gun, I can carry my Kevlar air tank... 74 cu ft. 4500 psi

Too much stuff.

Those Midway range bags are notoriously TOO BIG.
I have one and have STOPPED using it. Too easy to fill up and then I'm killing myself trying to get it to the firing line.

I'm moving to a tool box with wheels so I can make one trip with ammo, cleaning gear (as needed), pistols, tools. If I'm shooting rifle (which I do most of the time), my bag can do two and that's what I normally bring to the range with me. 90% of my shooting is with my 223 trainer unless I'm working up a load on another rifle.

I shoot on private land and back my PU to the firing point and work off the tailgate. I have tools, extra parts, magazines, ammo, tarps (to catch brass especially in the snow) shooting bench, brass cans and about a jillion rifles and pistols. At home i get to carry most of that gear up the stairs from the basement, if i were a bit smart i would limit the " just might need" stuff and not need to haul it up and down 12 steps.
