I posted this in the Autoloader section but seeing as it involves a 'smithing issue, I thought I's re-post it here for more visibility.

My FFL just took in a bunch of used handguns. One of them is a Colt .22lr ACE, serial number SM29,xxx. My copy of R. L. Wilson's Colt serial number book only goes to 1945 and sn SM13803. Does anyone have an idea when this one may have been manufactured?
It has one minor problem (other than...
I have a new Savage Model 10FP which seems to be a fine rifle. It came with a Simmons Pro Hunter, 3x9x44 scope on it. Unfortunately (finances, sigh) I am probably going to have to get rid of a nice Savage Model 16, a SS bolt action .223, skinny barrel, that has a Swift brand 4x12x40 scope...
I know this is almost impossible without being able to see the pistol in question but I would like to get some opinions anyways. I saw a parts gun today on which the frame was a Colt 1911, sn 541,xxx. The gentleman had put a commercial slide on it but says he has the original slide, plus a...
Does anyone have any information or knowledge about this program or the Marshall Legacy Institute which sponsors it? Is it a legitimate program or does it have any other aims?
They are planning a program at my youngest son's school and I am trying to figure out if I should support it or not...
I took my new (to me) Beretta 1201 out today to check the patterns. I fired three rounds of Federal Tactical 00 Buck at 7, 15, and 20 yards each. I then fired four Federal Tactical Slugs at 15 yards.
At 7 yards the pattern was very tight, right at my POA. It opened up a bit at 15 yards but...
Is anyone really surprised?

"Report Criticizes U.N. on Oil-For-Food

I have a new (to me) Glock 26 with a possible problem. I cannot disassemble the slide from the frame.
Now I have had many other Glocks and know the procedure. Unload, drop the magazine, check the chamber to be sure, point in a safe direction and pull the trigger. Then grasp the slide with...
Not exactly sure where to put this since it is about commercial ammo, but I'll start here.
My FFL just got in some Silver Bear 9mm, mainly 115 gr FMJ but a little HP also. Being a small operation he can't compete with Wally World or anyone else on ammo cost but he wanted to have something on...
I am not normally a Colt revolver fan, but I do like older guns. My regular dealer had a very nicely maintained, older Colt Detective Special on his wall today. Came from a friend of ours who is getting up there in years. I figured something was different about it when I saw on the left side...
I've had this Colt DS for about two years now. Finally got it cleaned up and fixed up with a Tyler T-grip. It's a 1950 model and has, in very neat lettering, "HPD" on the butt. Supposedly it came from the Hartford (CT) Police Dept. Someday I'll take a pic of it and my 1949 S&W 2" M&P. A...
A friend bought a bag of various old ammo into the shop the other day, partially to get it identified and partly hoping that someone would get rid of it for him. I took these two packs to photograph them and see if there is any interest amondst ammo collectors. He has maybe two-three more in...
My local dealer is becoming a hazard to my wallet. Went it yesterday and saw what I thought was a 4" Model 29. Turned out to be a Model 57-1 in beautiful shape (about 1987 vintage). Of course it followed me home.
This is the first .41 Magnum I can recall seeing around here in years. And...
One of the local gunshops took in a pair of NIB firearms from a guy, both in beautiful condition. They were a Navy Arms rifle and a Ruger Vacquero, both in .44-40. I asked to see a box of .44-40 ammo and they had some PMC (Cowboy loads I think). But I was surprised to see that they appeared...
I figured this belongs in "Social Situations".
JACKSONVILLE, Fla. (AP) - Police say a man who woke up with a serious headache walked 12 blocks to a hospital with a swollen lip and powder burns. Doctors discovered the problem. 47-year-old Wendell Coleman had a bullet lodged in his tongue...
A few of us in the local shop have noticed two styles of bullet for this ammo and it seems to vary with the box size. The 50 round box has the standard 130 gr round nose bullet while the 100 round box has a flat-nosed bullet. Both fully jacketed. Is anyone aware of why this difference?
Every one should try to hit this:

Basis for Opinion on Massad Ayoob
Having read several (including the current) threads on Mas Ayoob I am curious on how people have formed their opinions of this somewhat controversial (to say the least) individual.
For the record, I have never taken an LFI course nor have I observed the man...
Did the Colt Detective Special go through a change in frame size/shape/dimensions sometime after 1950? I bought a Pachmayr Grip Adaptor that is supposed to fit the Colt DS but it does not seem to fit my 1950 DS. I am wondering if it was meant for a later model.
Thanks.
My dealer has two of these on his shelf and I am thinking of getting one. Any comments pro or con about this SG? The people in the shop seem to think well of it, but then they also are trying to sell it.
If I decide to get it, I'll have to sell one or more of my other SGs. And that willbe...
