It might help if you say what kind of rifle you're trying to modify. I'm assuming its a nagant, but there's more than one type of rifle that fires that caliber...

Since when does the SCAR need an allen wrench for a field strip? Mine comes apart without tools for a basic breakdown. The allen wrench is for removing the barrel, which isnt really needed for an average cleaning. (And a big plus one for the LMT... those things make me drool)

Why not get the magpul VFG designed specifically for the MOE handguard? Or just get a rail segment for it and put on any VFG you like. It's all user preference, no right answers.

Normally it takes longer for a thread to get off topic and onto 5.56 vs 7.62... And I know many Marines, paratroopers, Rangers, snipers and other active duty types that dont have a problem with either. Dont feed the flame.

I run P-mags and Lancers out of my SCAR, never a problem with function. I hear some of the older P-mags will not drop free,but I've never experienced it. However that'd be the worst problem you encounter. Run whatever mags you want, the 16 will take it and ask for more.

Ahhh... hate the MK 19 disassembly, makes the M2 look like a dream. Of the stuff I own, the Mosin-Nagant has the toughest bolt take down, everything else is smooth.
