1911, 100 rounds, and trigger creep

I'd be pleased as could be. I LIKE a trigger with some movement before sear release so I abolutely without a doubt KNOW when it is going to fire. Both shooting at high speed and punching tight groups I have better results with a creepy trigger. The bad part is so few hammers have deep enough...

    Colt Series 70....pics

My goodness man!!! That is some extremely fine looking machine work. You sir, are an artist. Don't mind those that don't get it, just keep doing it. There may only be one or two people on this board that realize WHAT you have done, who cares how many like it. This gun needs to be...

    legal issues with home gunsmithing

I don't honestly know about possible ramifications, and I don't honestly care. I work on my own and set them up exactly the way they work best for me. As far as I am concerned if I need a firearm I need one that works for me, and a 'good shoot' is a good shoot regardless of equipment used...

Fitting a Match Barrel to a 1911 Slide

It is NOT a no-brainer. If the guy knew anything about fitting one he would have seen that the hood was oversize and the lower lugs hadn't been cut. The link he put on is the wrong size too, IF he measured for it correctly or measured for it at all. The barrel is probably short chambered as...

    National Match Barrel and Bushing

Have these been in a gun before? If not they might be worth something. If they have been fitted find a sucker on eBay, that will bring as much money as is possible for them. I would guess that someone that knows what is what wouldn't go much over about $40 for the barrel and bushing if it...

Factory Crimp Dies...Do You Use Them?

In handgun applications they are a band-aid AT BEST. If you 'need' them or saw an improvement in your ammunition when you started using them you need to fix the problem, not smash it out with a crutch.

Use undersize die with .40S&W- always?

Use it on everything. It won't hurt a thing, and it helps a lot in setback prevention and overall consistency.

    Polishing Barrel Hood

No clear. Not on the barrel. Don't polish the whole barrel, it won't help anything and could make thngs worse. Polish the hood (chamber area) with some 320 grit paper and oil, use a shoe-shine motion.

    XD in 10MM

Ding ding, we have a winner!!! Bob is right, the 40 cal XD is way too short for 10mm. You might be able to hack a 45 XD into a 10mm, but just thinking about it is probably more money than a new XD costs. You can safely handload 40 to pretty darn stout ballistics, look at Hodgdon...

Gunsmith and approx cost to ream .40S&W to 10mm?

Wally, do you handload? If so you can stay with the cheaper brass and stretch the loads to 10mm length just by throating the barrel. I will throat the barrel for you for the cost of return postage. Shoot me an email and we can talk about it, I don't get here much anymore.

New to S&W revolvers...Adjusting Trigger Pull.

Learn to shoot it as is, your ability to shoot a handgun and that includes EVERY handgun will improve dramatically if you do. When you get that one down pat work on a bone stock gun, shoot it DA only and shoot it until you can shoot it as well as your slicked up M10. At that point you will...

    1911 Double Fire ?

The gun is terribly dirty, the sear is bouncing off of the hammer, or the geometry is wrong. Is it clean? What is the set weight of the trigger right now? Do you have a GOOD trigger pull gauge? If so what is the set weight on the sear leg and the disconnector leg of the sear spring? What...

added magwell now mags won't fit

Trim the plastic. That plastic is actually there to prevent overinsertion when loading from slide lock.

Lee Pistol Factory Crimp Die Issue?

This is happening becuase you are swaging the bullet down inside of the case. If you don't believe that pull one and measure it, it will be smaller than it started out. The FCD really doesn't help anything and hurts most everything when loading lead bullets.

    Great job on the explanation!!

    Tell me about compensators...

45 compensators can be VERY efficient with the right loadings. If you don't handload you will never approach the level of compensation that you would if you handloaded for it. Bushing comps are a waste of time and money, the only way to go is to have it threaded on and alignment reamed...

    Barrel bushing clearance

For most guns that will be fine. I prefer the EGW angle bore bushings these days, they are already relieved for linkdown and fit up nicely. Their 'prefit' bushing is just about dead on the money for a slide and barrel that were made to the correct sizes. In an STI slide they have about 2...

    Barrel Fitting...

It really depends on what parts you want to use, some barrels fit up a lot easier than others. It will also depend on what the base gn is like, if everything is where it is supposed to be the job will be a lot different than it will if something is out of spec. Figure on $100 and up for a...
