Best mag style for competion? (1911)

Best mag ? For the money is CMc power mag's or metalforms. 8 or 10 rd, notice I said for the money, as can be bought for around $20. This was at Briar Rabbit w/Squibb I'm assuming? Every shooter has a preference and a opinion on mag's, bullets, guns. Reason mag wouldn't lock was fully...

    1000-yard bow shot

1000 Yard bow shot? Research Howard Hill, he competed with foot bows at yardages approaching 500. Also he pulled and shot a 175 # hand held bow in flight competition. He regualarly shot "Grandma" a 95 # bow in stage demo's around the world. His finally was shooting hand thrown coins, a dime...

    Box Drills???

Box drill Called here, "Boxing the square". Last run at this was at night shoot, with six targets in tactical sequence, with hard cover added to each target, each HC was different. Ken has his name on this drill as designer, so I'm told.

    offered a stolen gun

Steelcore Hit it on the head. Rummageing around in goodys that aren't yours isn't very cool. Campsites, homeless or otherwise aren't to be violated by any legit persons, called "trespass" and "criminal trespass", removing any item is "theft". Having knowledge of actual a crime, can be...

Show me your holster worn guns with character!

About time some one asked about the real guns, not the Safe Q's and Barbq's. A working piece says a whole lot more than does shine and glitter. Can't post pic's, but carry a S&W Sc that has character and is carried daily.

    AR's Two questions

Thanks for the replies. Understand the difference between 7.62x39 and 7.62x51. Want a reliable X39 if they would function, mag's were a real puzzler. Will have the Bushmaster BCWA2 L 20IZ soon, but was really no sound info available close by that I'm tuned into. Armalites mag's are modified M-14...

    AR's Two questions

New to AR's, anyone have experience with the 7.62x39 set ups? Looking at a Bushmaster 308 A2 any comments that would inlighten me here? 7.62x39 question do to having crates of the stuff, SKS/AK's just don't get it done for me. CETME 308 is OK, but AR looks more American, heh? Bushmaster A2 5.56...

    Tetra Gun Grease

Been using Tetra grease continuous for last three years and like it's performance. Tends to collect and pack carbon slightly, bottom of barrel and saddle area, but has not been a problem. Stays where put well, wear seems to be very minimal to my eyes and I shoot a lot, all year round. Hasn't...

    Adjusting point of impact

Consistant low left is milking your gun by squeezing your whole hand instead of using trigger finger isolated. Recoil anticipation may be a factor as well. Sight adjustment won't cure it. Try double ear protectors, plugs plus head set.

    Finger groove grips vs. accuracy

Low and/or low left is usually milking the gun, squeezing your whole hand instead of just trigger finger isolated. Consistant grip is very important as well, more so than grip type usually. You may be jerking in anticapating recoil, we all do to some extant, but with practice this becomes very...

    45 Competition Ammo

If you get serious and start shooting 500/1k a week, reloading is in your future with .45 ACP. 9MM are inexpensive enough that you can get by. Most local stores don't handle ammo in the amounts to meet the demand, to insure a constant, consistant supply of ammo. 4/5 X $163 far exceed my retired...

Presscheck: Is this a 1911 thing?

The worst sound imaginable would be a "click", instead of "bang", the next sound after, is "gotcha". Got to ask, when you drop your slide to load, if you don't check, just how do you "Know" it's loaded. Verify, no alibi. Makes no difference how, must be done. Mostly I press check, or drop mag'...

    Question on turn and draw

It would seem To be of greater value to be in a fighting stance when addressing a target, especiallya living one. Strong side, slightly bladed, to rear, also you are prepared to move either direction at that point. Therefore your turn would be less than a full 180, but I guess we all do what...

Only shoot light bullets with 1911 with light trigger?

Super fine Overtravel, could cause an issue, other than that, can't understand where a remark of that nature would come from. Most of us can't tell the difference in recoil until we have gone to extremes in both directions. If tests shows this won't follow down, shoot it as any normal handgun...

Night Sights - Which Ones Are The Best?

Since no two Of us are the same or see things the same. What works for me may fail completely for you. But I will say, a carry piece, that may be used for defense is going to do a better job for you in low light w/"A" N.S. than w/o. Combined w/a proper flashlight and sufficent training, your...

The One Huge Advantage of Position SUL

Sul (Sual) Has a place in your "bag", as a means to move into, through, near or retreating to cover, when there are friendlies involved. To ridicule any technique, with out realizing, that a value (use) may be there, is dangerous. Some of your reasons for not employing sul, with in your...

Cost In Time and $ Questions...

.45 ACP reloading Can be and is very beneficial, money wise. Only if you shoot a lot and practice often. Equipment cost are recovered fairly quickly. 9MM isn't cost effective, unless you shoot competetive and load to minimums for PF. As a retired person, I couldn't afford to shoot .45 ACP on...

    S&W 1911

It's a Handgun, not a contract. Did you buy it to read or shoot? S&W service is one of the best, your personal preferences aren't service issues. Attitudes are adjustable, try it. Ruger P345 is the nearest to a really nice carry piece they have to date, still not a 1911 though. Writings...

Locked and Loaded: Judges Arm Themselves

One of the Judges stated that "We" should have at least as much training as a LEO. Yet they are receiving 5 hours. 40 + hours of academy training is the BASIC firearms training, judges should be required to pass a test, showing their competance, skill before carrying in court. Sheriff Hill is a...

    Advice: Denied purchase of shotgun.

You have Missed a possible, easy solution. Get a NC ID card, good for check cashing, etc and listing your NC address. Nothing says your only acceptable photo ID has to be a DL. NC ID is perfectly legal and accepted as such, obtained at license bur' in most states and costs around $10-15. And...
