Anyone familiar with Secure-It pistol safes?

I don't think that they're really intended to serve as a home storage container. They're too light and portable. However they would be a lot better than a trigger lock as far as keeping a firearm away from kids. I think the intended use is more for temporary short-term storage in places such...

Any opinions on this handgun safe

The "audible whine" Firethorn mentioned doesn't come from the speaker. It's the sound of the locking bolt retracting. I wouldn't even really call it a whine. It's not loud enough to be heard more than a few feet away - definately not outside the room. It's delivered with a "beeping keypad" but...

    M&P9 vs. Glock 17

Curare, Be Careful If you continue to do fair and unbiased comparisons of your Glock to other pistols and especially if you concede that other guns have features that may actually be an improvement over Glock, you won't get a Christmas card from Gaston this year! :uhoh: Very good review! Tom

"Cocked and Locked" Carry -- Some Thoughts

I like the decockers on the DA/SA SIGs vs. using a safety. But it still pretty much comes down to personal preference. Tom

    Question for concealed carry folks...

ummm..... Does that mean half the guys over 50 at Disney World are carrying? Tom

DAO is a SAFER carry gun... (that got your attention)

Pretty much my feelings. Since I carry different guns depending on conditions (primarily determined by cover garments) I feel that if I can't carry the same gun I can at least carry guns that all function the same. I've seen too many people on the range pull the trigger two or three times with...

    Anyone own a Sig 229?

I've never had any problems, ammo related or otherwise, with my 229. I don't think a break in period is needed however I always shoot at least 200 rounds through any gun I intend to carry (actually even the ones I don't intend to carry) :D just to establish confidence in that particular gun...

    XD9 or Baby Eagle 9mm?

Actually, I can't think of anything porting improves other than reducing muzzle flip somewhat. As far as downsides, the biggest is the noise. The ports not only vent gas, they also vent the noise associated with that gas. So the sound level behind and to the sides of the gun increases...

Experience with the Bersa thunder 9?

As it turns out, I wound up buying a Thunder 9 four days after I posted my first comment in this thread. I had intended to get a blued model but they didn't have one in stock so I wound up with the nickel version. Normally I tend to think in terms of carry weapons so I stay away from the bright...

So, how old is your carry gun?

My oldest carry gun that I still own, although I stopped carrying it when I stopped wearing a blue uniform, is a 4" S&W Model 19 bought new in 1981. Tom

What are your favorite inexpensive handguns

In new guns, I'll add another vote to the Bersa column. I have 3 now. I just picked up a Thunder 9 HC (17+1 9mm) a couple of weeks ago. It's about $100 more than the Thunder .380 but it's a full-sized gun. (Also available in .40 S&W) After the Bersa I'd say CZ, Ruger, Taurus, S&W Sigma...

    Shooting a car's gas tank?

I think there's something about movie cars that makes them explode every time you look at them funny. :scrutiny: I mean, how else can you explain why every movie car that drives off a cliff explodes in midair? Tom

What is your .380acp "Carry Ammo"

Not just because it expands. Because when it expands it will do more internal damage than a clean .38" diameter hole. Most vital organs are pretty close to the surface and if I have to shoot someone with a .380 I want to make them bleed. Even a little rough edge is better than a smooth copper...

What is your .380acp "Carry Ammo"

I carry Hydra-Shoks. I want to make as big of a hole as possible with an otherwise fairly small round. And while some people think it doesn't have the power to expand properly, I figure if it expands it's better than a non-expanding round. And if it doesn't expand then it's the same as a...

    Range report: Bersa .380

Wadcutters are pretty blunt to be using in a semi-auto. Where most rounds tend to self-center if they don't quite line up on feeding, wadcutters are much more likely to catch an edge and jam. I suspect with ball or conventional hollow-points you'll have no problems. FWIW, this is why it's a...

    Break in new gun

BTW, true story; I asked a friend if I could shoot on his property out in the country. He agreed and came out with me to shoot his pistol, which turned out to be a Jennings. :what: <insert collective moan here> As we were walking a considerable distance back to his woods. He was on a...

    Break in new gun

Count me in as one of the "clean and lube it before you shoot it the first time" crowd. I've actually seen that mentioned in a couple of owner's manuals. As far as "what would the consequences be of not performing the break in procedure?" The biggest consequence would probably be having the...

    please explain "+P"

The last I knew, SAAMI had not established a +P for .40 S&W (it's done on a round by round basis) so no manufacturer would be marking a barrel for it. However my information is a few years old, and .40 has become a lot more popular since then, so it's possible that there is now a +P for it...

Experience with the Bersa thunder 9?

I fondled one at a gunshop about 60 miles from home. I didn't get a chance to become any more intimate with it than that. :what: But I've kinda wished I would have. Like most Bersas, it's a brick! But it's a comfortable brick. And my experience with the .380s leads me to think it would be a...

    question about mags for p229

You might also want to look a the 13 round 9mm magazines. (12 round in .40 S&W) These are the magazines the guns were designed to use before the Clinton ban limited them to 10 rounds. I'll second what vex said about using only factory or Mec-Gar. Tom
