a couple screws and locktight as long as your marlin is predrilled by marlin for a scope mount. if it has screws in the top of the receiver you remove the back ones and screw the new rear sight on.

you can remove the trigger guard by punching one side of the front spring loaded pin out then carefully prying the other side of the pin and trigger guard out , the back half will come right out . i just did mine two days ago it does make it fold much better like the original.

i love the xo ghost ring sights i put on my 336. between the ghost ring rear and the ramp front with the white line down the middle it made a big improvment over the stock sights and for the ranges you describe they would work well.
