    best scope for Marlin 336

I've got a Marlin 336 .35 Remington that I hunt with. I killed my deer this year, but notice my eyes ain't what they used to be. (hit the old 50 this year) Instead of hunting in woods this year, I chose a corn field that had been combined. I chose wisely as there were deer right at sundown...

    KAR 98 carbine

I enherited a KAR 98 efurt 1916 carbine. The stock was cut down some time ago (1950's?) so it's orginiality is lost. However, I understand the muzzel cover is a very rare item to collectors because most were lost. Mine has one on it in perfect shape, so any idea what it might be worth? Thanks

    Marlin model 70 .22 mags

I bought a marlin model 70 .22 auto this weekend at an auction pretty cheap. It has been used quite a bit, but it was a low low price and when I got it home, it is accurate. Bought it for garden varmits around the farm. Does anyone sell aftermarket magazines for this. The mag is worn and it...

    Springfield Carnine 45-70 question

I study a lot about the old western revolvers, but have just started reading into the old rifles. I have a question about something Ive come across. I've been wanting a 45-70 Springfield carbine copy for some time. I see them listed in 45-70 which I know the old army rifle was. But now I've been...

    Thinking about an 1849 Pocket

I'm seriously considering selling my Uberti 2nd model Dragoon to buy an 1849 pocket. I've read what threads there are on the pocket, but has anyone used these a lot and is there a preference between say Cimerron or just any old uberti dealer? I use my guns a lot, and would probably use this not...

    New Remingtons in Magazine

My newest issue of Guns of the old west has pictures of the three new Remingtons, Two BP's and one 1875. I've noticed the two 1858's are different behind the loading lever, besides having different trigger guards. The aricle dosen't mention why the difference in the frame behind the lever...

Wanna have some fun on the farm?

OK, this was passed to me by one of my western reenacting members. We use our cap n ball pistols a lot in our shows, so we load the 44's with 30 grains of BP, then fill the cylinder with cream of wheat and compress it with the rammer. Makes good blanks....here's the kicker.. I mentioned we...

A work in progress '58 Remmie

Just got my remmie back from the gunsmith. I had him cut the barrel to 4 1/2" and install my Dixie Gun Works dovetail site. I had already removed the old finish. I installed new nipples and just finished fitting the grips to the frame. I have a Cylinder pin retaining clip ordered from...

    .45 auto ammo question

I've been out of the auto market for a long time, was carrying revolvers for CCW. Now that I've bought a PT1911, I carry it daily. Back in the late 80's, early 90's I carried a S&W 645 for a duty weapon with the CCI hollowpoint "flying ashtray" for a service load.It was a good round, and...

Do you think this old trick will work?

OK, give me a minute here without blowing coffee through your nose onto the keyboard laughing..... Back in the "old" days, an old police trick (yes I did it!) was to put some tooth paste into the internals of our new Smith 19's and 66's, set in front of the tv over a weekend and work the...

    Anyone have "blacksmithed" revolvers?

Here is a copy of a John Wesly Hardin's 1860 hideout I made from an old unknown maker .44 I bought years ago at a pawn shop. I found the picture of an original in a museum book I had. I also saw a shorter one with a blacksmith made birdhead grip in Antique Firearms Magazine. Now I get to...

Navy Arms 1858 New model question

I just bought a Navy Arms 1858 New model at a swap meet. It is marked Pietta, and I have a couple of those, one from already had one from Navy Arms bought in 2002 and one from EMF in 2001. This one is not like those though. It has a beautiful blue finish, with no machining marks anywhere. Very...

    Need info on shotgun please

I just purchased a shotgun whose name I'm not familure with. It is a Paragon Model CS 12 gauge with what looks to be factory 18 or 20 inch barrels. (I just got it home.) The serial number is T26099. I bought it just to shoot black powder blanks through for our Wild West train and bank robbing we...

    Looking for some new grips

Anyone have any experience with getting decent "Ivory" looking grips for their revolvers without costing more than the gun or having to sand half the grip away. I'm looking for a decent looking set for a uberti navy and a Taylor's (uberti) Remington New army conversion. Anyone sell anything...

    OK, I messed it up!

Out of all the dumb things I did, I messed up a .31 Pietta pocket Remington. I tried to smooth out the action on the little bugger and suceeded in making it dangerously hair triggered. Then tried to fix that and screwed up the hammer notch. (This was 2 years ago). Now this was my wife's gun...
