    Which one would you keep?

I have a Smith model 65 with a 4 inch barrel that is mint, and a Smith model 581 with a 4 inch barrel that was probably carried by somebody for a decade or more, and it shows. I gotta get rid of one, but I'm torn. Which would you keep and why?

    Bad Gun Smithing--Advice?

I just had a Turk Mauser cut down to 18" by a local smith here. He is an old gentleman I have used a few times before with good results. I picked the gun on Tuesday and just now sat down with it to give it a close look. Behind the beautiful new crown about 1cm down the barrel there are big...

    Need Persian Mauser ID help!

Bubba sometimes really picks the wrong guns to foul up. I saw this little Mauser at a recent gun show and bought it. Under those Redfield bases is the Persian Lions crest. I think this gun was originally a Persian Mauser carbine as the front sights are original. I can't figure out the stock...

    Back to square one...

So, I took my really pitted Model 17-3 Smith apart and... painted it with Ford and Oldsmobile engine block paint as an experiment. I wanted to see if I could cheap out on refinishing it. Tomorrow, I will be taking it apart again, stripping it and starting over. I am hiding my face on...

Anyone know the differences between the Model 17-3 and the 17-4? Are the cylinders and barrels interchangeable? Thank you!!

The most pathetic revolver... Model 17-3

I walked into the local dealer where a buddy of mine works and walked out with this from an estate collection, a Model 17-3. The lock work is perfect and the bore is too, and it does shoot, which is all I can say about it. This gun was NIB. It got wet, and the box fell apart. So did most of...

The Stevens Model 200... opinions please

I own a lot of rifles and all of them are milsurps. Probably the most accurate I have are the Egyptian Hakim and the K-31. I have found myself wanting more in terms of accuracy. Although I never thought this would happen I find my self wanting a new-out-of-the-box rifle. I have read that the...

Ahhhh noooooo!!! mod 29 really a 28 converted to 44mag

I thought I found a good deal on Model 29-2 Smith and Wesson with a 4 inch pinned barrel at a pawn shop. I briefly examined the weapon and it was in top notch mechanical condition. They wanted $470 for it, which I knew was a good deal. I have been looking for a 44 mag. I told my dad about it...

Yugo M76 and Hakim magazine question...

Hakim mags are near impossible to find. Does anyone know if the mag from the Yugo M76 in 8mm mauser can be made to fit the Hakim rifle? These are readily available from Century arms. Thanks!

    Webley MkIV

I found a Webley MkIV at a local pawn shop for $229 plus tax. As far as I can tell it's a 90-95% war finish gun. The grips are non original white plastic but fit well. The cylinder has some rotational play when the trigger is stationary. Locks up tight when the trigger is held back. Is this...

Silly me, I want my Smith and Wesson refinished...recommendations?

I have a cosmetically nasty, mechanically very sound S&W Model 1905 4th change .38 special that I just LOVE. It is accurate, it feels perfect in my hand, and the action is oh-so slick. However, the gun only has about thirty percent of its original blueing left, and has lots of pitting along the...

Are these parts available somewhere for the S&W Model 1880?

I'm having a hard time finding the small parts I need to restore a Smith and Wesson top break, Model 1880, .38 Double Action. I need a cylinder stop, ejctor/ratchet, and ejector cam spring. Numrich was the only source I could find on the web, and they are out of all of the parts I need. :(...

Help locating exploded view/info for S&W 38 Double Action

Does anyone know of a source for an exploded view of the Smith and Wesson .38 Double Action top break? The one I own is rough, but complete, and the action just quit working. Also, anyone have info on date of manufacture? Mine is serial number 1326XX. I've been buying top break Smith's...

A Project: Smith & Wesson 38 Double Action

I recently bought a really nice, tight, and functional S&W Safety Hammerless in .38 and now I've been bitten by the bug for top break revolvers. I stopped in to the local gun store today and walked out with the start of a new project. I bought a sorry old S&W .38 Double Action. The...

Practical difference between two Czech 7.62x54r types?

Does anyone know? I have owned lots of Czech silvertip in this caliber (usually from the 60's). Today I went to buy some more and found some Czech ammo, same blue box, but with no silver stripe on it. Headstamped from '87. Not silvertip. Cases are different as well. Is there any real...

    A little shotgun eye candy

I never post in the shotgun forum, mostly because I dont have time to shoot skeet any more and nobody cares about the sawed off Savage 67H I keep loaded in my closet. But, the old man and I had our guns out recently for insurance photos and I snapped some pics of what we've got. I figured it...

    Value question re Ruger Mini-30

My dad wants to sell his Ruger Mini-30, so I am trying to help him out and do a little leg work for him (he is internet challenged). Any ideas what a minty blued, wooden stocked Mini-30 runs for used with Ruger rings, scope, and 5 hi-cap mags? Is 450-500 about in the correct range, or am I way...

    .38 S&W Load recommendation needed...

Hi- I bought a Smith & Wesson Victory Model in .38 S&W by mistake (thought it was .38 special), so I just got some Lee dies and a 100 count bag of Starline brass to start reloading for it. I plan on using Bullseye and 158 grain semi wadcutters as I'm already up to my neck in both. Any...
