I own a lot of rifles and all of them are milsurps. Probably the most accurate I have are the Egyptian Hakim and the K-31.

I have found myself wanting more in terms of accuracy.

Although I never thought this would happen I find my self wanting a new-out-of-the-box rifle. I have read that the Stevens is a pretty accurate gun and will cost me less than 5 bills.

I am looking specifically at the models in .308 (short action) and the one in 7mm Rem Mag (long action).

Any thoughts on these?

Thanks!

I've had mine in 300 Win Mag for a few years now...love it to death. I've taken several deer with it from 10-300 yards and made some kills on groundhogs at over 100 yards with ease. Even took the neck off of a turkey at around 45 yards or so once. Great guns, wouldn't mind another in .308 or .223.

Savage/Stevens rifles have been one of the top values in out of the box accuracy for years. Good choice!

I would put it as good, or in the same class for accuracy, as these rifles as well.
Howa/wetherby
new t/c budget rifle
savage
smith wesson i/bolt
marlin xl or xs
mossberg. atr or 100 series
chances are, the t/c and the wetherby, will have the best fit/finish.
all should be 400 or less, with no scope attached. I do like the marlins,
and am very interested in the new t/c. would like hopefully to get some
range reports here, soon.

I have postd this before, I got two of them, both butt ugly tack drivers, will outshoot some of my buds hi dollar overpriced bolt actions. want another.

Like TexasPatriot, I've posted this before. I love mine. It outshot my Savage Mod. 12 stainless heavy fluted bbl varmint gun - at less than half the price.

I have one in .308, and while it was killing deer out of the box, let me give you some suggestions.
1, a trigger job (you can do it yourself but only if you know what you are doing)
2. bell and carlson stock (not expensive but much more sturdy than what comes on it)
3. dednutz game reaper scope mounting system.
I used it as a project gun and now i have friends asking to borrow it every season.

I have them in 223, 243, 7mm-08, 308, 30-06, and 300 Win Mag. If you are buying new, the 200 will be a centerfeed model. If you are looking at used, you may find some staggered feed. All of them will have the newer round rear receiver top (for when you buy scope mounts).

All of mine were accurate and functional out of the box. I had to do a little trimming on the stock in the barrel channel on a couple of them because the plastic had warped and was contacting the barrel on the side. It is an easy matter to tweak the guns with Savage aftermarket parts if you want more than a basic model someday.

I am still planning on adding a few more of them to my collection. They are good, solid rifles at a great price.

I had 3 staggered feed Savage/Stevens in 223 and 308. All had some feeding problem until I adjust the mag opening or mag spring tension. Center feed should do better. Accurate budget rifle. Replace the trigger spring will bring the trigger pull weight down to 4 lbs.
