Indeed, Owen. The pistol is not the solution. It is one tool in our repertoire and getting it into play is a much more complicated procedure than a lot of gun folk realize.
One of 'the rules' when it comes to fighting for your life is this: 'Once you start applying pressure to the bad guy...
A truly deep understanding of drawstroke goes a long way to avoiding the issues of having the bad guy's hands on your gun. When we've ingrained the concept of allowing the gun to flow throughout drawstroke based on the environment/range to threat, every thing becomes much easier.
Thanks for the...
Well said, 9mmEpi. It's all about coordinating the forward movement of the gun w the rearward movement of the trigger and refining visual focus.
Thanks for the feedback, folks.
Glad you find it worthwhile. Steal away! I don't quite know where I got the habit of using 'series vs parallel' to describe this stuff. I figure it's a flashback to electronics 101 back in high school.
My take on efficiently working the trigger. Let me know what you think.

Here's my brief review of a pretty neat product for Glocks. I was leery when I first saw them, but after working with them for the last 10 months or so, I am a fan.
Count One, as I teach it, refers to a multitude of things.
Hips Square to the known threat. Weight forward.
Off Hand either maintains a Fence or collapses flat to the chest at the pec line.
Gun Hand clears the cover garment high, using either the thumb or curled fingertips.

Here's a video a did a little while back covering my take on Actions Upon Contact. AUC are the things we do during and after the interaction with the bad guy.

LOL.
Sorry for the confusion. The Fence is as much a concept as a physical structure. It is one component of Managing Unknown Contacts. If you look at the PDF that I attached, Craig goes into quite a bit of detail on the thought processes behind it.
The idea of having a physical structure [the...
And a hands up stance gives you options to protect yourself that are absent when one hand is hovering around your gun. When you are backing out, given verbal commands, what happens when the opponent that you didn't see suddenly closes distance, striking you in the face on the unprotected side...
Here's a PDF that I found that might help put the whole 'Managing Unknown Contacts' in context. This material was originally posted by Craig Douglas on www.TotalProtectionInteractive.com and converted to a PDF by longterm member James Marwood. The original posts date from 2005.
Just getting back online following the RangeMaster conference. Well, this thread has certainly taken off! ;)
As several guys have commented, the Fence is merely a hands-up, non-offensive position to give you options when dealing with people whose intent is unknown. The idea of Managing Unknown...
The importance of having the skills to, in the words of Craig Douglas, Manage Unknown Contacts is of inestimable value. Having MUC skills are more important than having devastating unarmed skills or amazing gun skills. It really is that important.
One component of controlling your environment...
AOK,
I was referring to the 2 on 1 evolutions in Craig's classes. They start with 2 Unknown Contacts. You do not know whether either, or both, or neither, have hostile intent at the onset.
Sorry for the confusion.
