Well I always ask these questions and never give much back but this is my last one. And normally you guys know more that I do. I'm coming across a large amount of money and decided that as my last stand I should purchase everything I can while still possible. Before you tell me I'm wasting money and should save it, I know but I really, really like guns and have all the cars and other assets I need already. Any ways I shall start with telling you what I have, and then telling you what I must buy.

1. Ruger Mini 14 Ranch Rifle /.223
2. Ruger GP-100 /.357 Mag
3. Remington 870 Express Super Mag / 12ga
4. Mossberg 590 / 12ga
5. Winchester US M1 Carbine / .30 carbine
6. Saiga 308 16" (unconverted) / .308
7. IMI Uzi Carbine / 9mm
8. Remington 700 Sendero Kevlar Stock Bull BBL / .25-06
9. Remington 700 Varmint Laminate, Bull BBL / 7mm Rem Mag
10. CZ-52 / 7.62x25
11. Glock 20 / 10mm
12. Ruger Mark III / .22LR
13. Ruger Super Redhawk / .454 casull/.45LC
14. Charter Arms Undercover / .38spl
15. Colt M1911 / .45acp
...and that's all.

Well now what I must have:

1. AR-15
2. .308 Battle Rifle (M1A or FAL)
3. .50 BMG (Single, Repeater, or Semi)
4. Maybe... a quality AK...?
So what should I do:

1. Should I standardize and buy only 3 main type of rifles eg. 2 ARs, 2 M1As, and 1 more UZI, and lots of ammunition and magazines.

2. Should I go with diversity, eg. A Thompson, beltfed .308, FAL, M1A, Ruger PC9, Robarms XCR, and so on....

3. Should I buy quantity over "quality" eg. 10 SKS', 10 WASRs, and LOTS of ammunition.

4. Blow it all on a beltfed .50BMG M2/M3 semi-auto with hand crank for 8,000

5. Get a Life?

I know this is a lot to ask, but I need to see this from all perspectives and this will most likely be my last stand against the anti's.

What would you do if you were me, I don't get the money till another couple months.

I would get a .50BMG as that seems to be in the most danger. I would go all out, and get all the toys you want on it. Ammo may get scarce on it also, so stock up. Then spring for the AR-15, with the toys you want.

Buy guns, don't listen to the others. A well made gun will last 50 years easily. Hard to find any other durable good that compares.

For me, $10,000 is two rifles with scopes.

Or a fully transferrable M16.

I'm expecting a new assault rifle ban to be passed right after the Dems take the whitehouse - I'm not hopeful about the Reps chances with the candidates we've seen so far. Might be time to stock up.

You've got a big hole in there when it comes to surplus arms. I think you need some Swiss, Swedish, and maybe some Finnish military arms. Don't go quantity over quality. Heck if you have the cheddar you should get some of the REALLY cool rifles such as the Mannlicher-Schoenauers or the commercial pre-war Mausers.

I would buy two of each of your "must have" guns then a bunch of mags to go with them. Once the political situation stabilizes you can either sell them for what you paid for them (or a 500% profit depending on how things go) and re-invest the money

All of your options sound like good candidates, esp considering the grim outlook on the White House next year. Any of those that you mentioned could come under fire in the next couple of years.

So....
.50 first
next should be an AR
then a M1A

Anything left over (probably wont be much) should be spent stocking up on ammo....on second thought - reloading equipment and components.

Thank you GunTech, what good is money with nowhere to spend it. What would I spend my money on, designer clothes, luxury cars, drugs and alcohol?
None of that stuff interests me because I've already delved into some of that useless junk and got nothing out of it.
I
'm a 22 year old student, full time truck driver, and I am thinking way ahead.
I want to be able to give all my kids lots of guns because chances are they won't be able to buy anything than a single shot .22 and tasers.

Besides like mentioned already, guns last a long freaking time. At first I thought muscle cars were fun and part of my future, but that has fallen through. Now I have a Nova and a Duster, that I can't drive without a fear of some idiot plowing into me, and the future of gasoline is not very bright let alone the present state.

Now I think that I should standardize on the UZI and AR-15, mags are cheap and so is the ammo somewhat. But as for the M1A and the FAL, I'm at a stalemate and would like some input. What mags are cheaper?, which is less finicky with bullet types? Which receiver is sturdier and more likely to last several generations.

If I standardize, after this large purchase I will seek out and pick up surplus and interesting choices.

What about the .50 cal? Any recommendations?

FAL mags are a lot cheaper than M1A. DSA sells them for $7 a piece. Most M1A mags I have seen are over $20.

Obviously, you can do what you want, but just some food for thought: If you spent half of your $10k on a few nice guns, and simply invested the remaining $5k in the S&P500, by the time you're ready to give your kids something, say in 25 years, you'll have some nice guns to hand down, and you'll have made over $40k in the process! Keep the $$ there 'til retirement, and it'll likely grow to over $200k.

I would spend it all on mags and ammo!

Where would you be now as far as $$ if you bought $10k worth of .308 and .223 just a year ago?

I would spend a good portion on AR-15 Lower Receivers (stripped), you can get them for about $125. Then wait until the ban takes effect, and it will in 1 1/2 years or so, then you can sell a few of them for the other stuff, or retire....

I would buy a couple of military style rifles (since they are likely to get banned), and invest the rest. Use the profits from the investments to pay for ammo!

You probably don't want to hear this- but take it easy. Don't rush this.

I had a buddy who got an inheritance. He went out and splurged and got a bunch of guns (among other toys). Well within a few years, he was bored with several of them and realized he bought some he really didn't like and was selling them off. (* I got his $1300 M1A for $600 by the way ;)) But he took a huge loss overall due to being impulsive originally.

I'd do this. Take your list and reduce it by 50 percent- force yourself to really pick and choose what you want and debate in your head why. Analyze each potential buy. Pretend each gun is interviewing with you for a job. Really ask yourself what role it will play in your arsenal and if you really need it.

Two other things. 1. Even if you have money, shop for the best price. The local mom and pop gun store might feel cozy inside, but they often inflate the prices beyond reason.

2. Save some money for ammo! :)

Sorry if it is an embarassing question, but what is all that junk FOR?

If you are going to be a collector, you need a unifying theme, not just an accumulation of whatever looks kewl when you have money burning a hole in your pocket.

I went that way for a while, but it has been some years since I have bought anything but what I thought likely to help me SHOOT better. I have shot in several forms of competition and all the odds and ends just kind of pale besides a real effort to improve. If I hadn't been introduced to competitive shooting - ATA trap, if it matters - when a little bit older than you are now, I'd probably be playing golf by now.

I think you should get an M1A since you already have two rifles with similar controls (Mini-14 and M1 Carbine).

How much of a gambler are you? When rumors of a ban started circulating in 1992 I did alot of research and then contacted an importer connection of mine, 5 days later I handed him a cashiers check for the crates of True preban Norinco AKMs and SKSs all with spike bayos, That had been sitting in a container unit here in Arizona (I lived in Oregon at the time and was fresh outa the Army soo..) imported even earlier but just sitting... both fixed and underfolding stocks several crates of 30 rnd mags in two years I started swapping of a few here and there, over that 10 years the AWB was in effect I built most of my 4300 gun collection as well as funded everything I need to load for almost every military caliber in my collection, we just finished our new house which sits above 5 huge vaults we plan to have a virtual meuseum available by 08 with each vault dedicated to 4 eras in our history and the guns used in those eras the 5th vault is a lil smaller at 12'x40' its the ammo room......... my investment back in 1992? $18,000, we had the collection appraised for accurate insurance coverage before we moved it last year......... give ya a hint the total was very well into 6 figures........ don't just load up on random cr@p I know that sounds harsh all of the guns on your list are very nice, however if ya play that $10K right (granted ya can't get AKs for $65 each these days even if ya do have the connections) if ya look very hard at the last ban then start researching, the net wasn't as well developed back then as it is now, READ everything ya can that the opposition is so glad to make public etc... after ya've done completed your research start buying............. if ya play it right ya can easily swap for everything ya want later, even if .50 bmg gets banned ya will still be able to swap for one ya just gotta figure out what people are really going to want the most and what will be the hardest to get......

I'll be leaving my sons a few guns, too. Looking over your list of guns already owned, I think you have a good start. I'll offer up some suggestions based on my "accumulation" and what I like/want - YMMV...........

M1 Garand (.30-06)
M1A (.308)
Swiss K31 (8.5x55mm)
Swede M96 (6.5x55mm)
SAFN49 (.30-06 or 8mm)
Finn M39 (7.62.54R)
Several Mosin-Nagants - M90/30, M38, M59 (7.62x55R)
Persian Mauser (8mm)
A collection of 1970-80's S&W "K", "L" and "N" frame revolvers

In regards to your M1A/FAL dilemma, I have not shot an M1A. I own an FAL and will shoot it before I shoot my AR-15.

I also support some of the others on here that I would invest in ammo and/or reloading equipment and components. I also like the idea of investing on items such as hi-cap mags and AR receivers as someone else mentioned.

A quality AK is any that you put a mag in and it goes bang every time and I have not seen one that doesn't meet that requirement. So get one and a drum mag or two.

In regards to the antis...What I did not see on your list was a 12 ga autoloader...

I was in a similar situation ($10000 at 22 years old) a few years ago. I had the money invested for two of those years, and while it grew a bit, the buying power of the dollar slipped about as much or more. I had nothing to spend it on, anyway.

Once I got a life, I bought a few guns, but spent most of that money on various experiences (more school, living outside of my home state, international travel, etc.).

You're a young man with (in all likelihood) relatively few expenses. If you're working a half-decent job, you should be able to save up a "replacement" $10000 in a relatively short amount of time compared to a married, older man saving for retirement, kids' college, back operation, etc.

I vote SPEND, to an extent. A young life spent toiling, saving, and restraining oneself is no life at all. Get what you enjoy (if you enjoy what you've listed), but don't blow the whole $10000 on firearms. Don't spend it all at once, either--you still have to be responsible with your money. However, if your motivation for purchasing these guns is to spite the "antis", socialists, or UN-blue-helmet-wearing pinko lesbian baristas, you should think again. It's not your mission to die in your compound clutching one of these guns, screaming, twitching, and sparking off rounds at the BATF armored vehicles as you gasp breath after breath of smoke, soot, and tear gas. Unless you're insane, that is. Then it just might be your mission.
