Hey, last year I had The HighRoad's help in finding the right .22 for me. After a few weeks of help I got the 10/22 in .22lr it came with a bull barrel and nice wood stock. I've got a bipod, two bx-25 magazines, and a cheap (better than the one it came with) Walmart scope. I was wondering what upgrade I should get for it more from a hypothetical stand point.

What do you use it for??

Were it mine?
I would lose the heavy barrel, bipod, 25 round mags, and scope.
And make a light, handy 10/22 carbine out of it again.
Then I would learn to shoot with open sights really well, while I was still young enough to have the eyes to do it..

But thats just me.

Nothing, get some good ammo and have fun. You can do whatever you want with it.

Good Shooting

Well in that Case, (no pun intended) you got the heavy barrel model.

So I would leave it that way.

You can tacticool it until you are broke. I have one that I left stock and one that I put an Archangel stock on. I use the BX-25 round mags for the tactical and the 10 rounders for the stock one. Bi-pod, black rifle look but still just a 10/22. It does look cool though.

I want to add a more adult sized stock to mine and a scope (a decent one in the 4x range), another BX 25 magazine, and a few more factory ten rounders. That will give me a decent small game getter with enough firepower to defend against a medium sized predator such as a wolf or human attacker, if necessary. Then I want to set another one up with tech sights and a loop sling for use as a training rifle.
The cool thing about the 10/22 is that it comes in just about any configuration and if it doesn't, you can make it that way. Having said that, I like them best at a stock or almost stock level. I have no use for a heavy barreled semi-auto .22. But others do... and more power to them.
I think if you like your rifle, you might be better off to look around and try to find a second one with open sights for a decent used price. Then you don't have to choose - you can choose both.

The suggestion for more ammo is also great. I think you should fill up a .50 caliber can just to keep around, then fill up another one for practice ammo.

I had a regular barrel 10/22 otherwise similar to yours that I just upgraded into a "Liberty Training Rifle" for Appleseed. I would suggest getting:
1-Hogue rubber overmolded stock
2-1 1/4" sling swivels
3-USGI type canvas or nylon sling
and especially
4-Tech Sights I think they're called, M1-style sights for the 10/22. The stock 10/22 sights aren't really up to hitting the little scaled-down 400m target in Appleseed. There are people who can do it, but I can't consistently.
The Tech Sights have a narrow front sight blade which helps, it's an aperture rather than a tangent sight, and moving the aperture to the rear of the receiver increases the sight radius which helped a lot too.

With these mods and some practice, my scores are a lot closer to the rifleman badge than before. I credit a fair amount of that improvement to the better sights.
