I'm going to get my 10/22 up to speed and need parts.
If anyone has suggestions and sources with good prices let me know.

Parts needed:

Red dot of some type cheap but not junk.

Best source/price for Ruger BX-25 mags.

Any stock ideas? I have thefactory wood on there now but might have to change put stocks to be able to mount a light

What are you going to do with it?

Function dictates what parts you need.

The best cheap red dots I know of are from Primary Arms. Under $100 for a sight with mount. They will survive repeated use on a AK and PA has great customer service.

As far as mags go, try Midway and Brownell's.

Why do you need a light on a 10/22?

Plinking more and more as ammo prices go up.

light is for catching critters out by the hen house at night.

Pro-Mag makes a replacement Tactical barrel band for the 10-22. It has two rails to mount lights/lasers on plus a slot for a sling. Check out Brownells.com. Look up #687-000-031. See if that will help you. For nitetime critter control a gun mounted light along with a red dot optical sight should be the cats' meow!!

+1 on the Primary Arms red dot. Can't help on the stock though as I run the Hogue OM on mine and there is no rail mount on it.

Everywhere I see the 25 round mags they around the $20-$25 mark.

If you don't already have one get an extended mag release

Ditto for Primary Arms

Tapco makes a popular stock with a collapsible stock/pistol grip called the "Fusion".

CDNN frequently has weekend Ruger BX25 mags on sale with reduced shipping. Of course since those came out, the prices on Butler Creek steel lip mags have dropped so you might try those also.

CDNN has the best prices I've seen on Ruger BX-25's. Mine has been flawless, though I still think TI mags are a little "better".

For all the C&R holders, Midway gives some pretty good discounts for us. I got my BX-25s from them for $21.99 each and a few other goodies.

BetterPrepared, did you make that stock? WOW!!! Very nice. What wood did you use?

Anyway, although I do like the stuff that Primary Arms sells just because of the service end, I'd also suggest checking out one of the Bushnell micro sights. I've been running one for a couple of years and it's never let me down. I think they run right around $100 at several places on the net.

As for the stock, unless you just feel the need to go all tactical, there's nothing wrong with the stock that you have. If you have a flat portion on it any place on the forearm that is parallel to the bore, you can just get a piece of rail and screw it to the stock for a light. There's nothing as sleek and handy as a 10/22 in stock form.

Sorry to hijack, but how long did it take you to make that stock? Is the action bedded? I'm asking because that is exactly what I've been looking for and no one makes one on the commercial market.

The stock is a laminate of zebrawood and burled walnut. Makes the rifle MUCH heavier. Not sure if I like or dislike that about it. Took 7 months of spare time. The trigger assembly is bedded and the barrel is floating.

You're right Tony, the reason I made it is because there aren't any out there to buy. Which doesn't make any sense to me.

I'd make another with your custom modification requests for around the $400 range. I've got a huge piece of walnut with your name on it.
