With the rising cost of ammo, I have gotten a bad case of rimfire fever, and so far I'm loving it. So much fun for so little money. I love my marlins but yesterday the fever got the best of me and I came home with a new 10/22. I need some help from the experts on how to outfit this gun. Its just gonna be a plinker. First I have no plans to put a scope on it, but for me the stock front sight is kinda hard to see. Any suggestions on a better front, or set (front and rear) sights? I bought a Ram-Line 50 round magazine, but Its all plastic and seems kinda cheep. Not to mention it was a bear to load with my arthritic fingers. What is a good hi cap. magazine for the 10/22? Also what should I do to break this rifle in? If anything. Any other suggestions you guys have for a plinker gun is greatly appreciated.

I believe a company by the name of Techsights or something to that effect makes a nice set of peep sights which mimic those of an AR15.

im going to break in my 597 this weekend.
how? ill run a boresnake through it before I shoot a few hundred rounds of various ammo (total cost: $15) and maybe even again afterwards if I feel like it.

Replacing the factory stock with the Hogue overmolded stock is the best upgrade I have found. I am convinced that the barrel band that comes on the standard model hurts accuracy. Myself and other family members own 7 Ruger 10-22"s. Four of them were the deluxe models that came without the barrel band. The other three shot more accurately after the stocks were replaced with aftermarket stocks without the barrel band.

Put a quality scope on it and spend about $25 to have a gunsmith smooth up the trigger and I feel that is all that is needed. The bull barrels that are popular are to heavy for my tastes and the Hogue stock adds just enough weight to help steady the rifle.

If you want high-cap mags the Butler Creek mags are the best that I have tried. The ones with steel lips sell for around $30 and are supposed to be more durable than the $20 ones with plastic lips. I have some of both and have never had the first problem with either.

there are also some devices you can get , to hep you load those mags, they are double tough to load, takes a good technique. The TI mags are the best, followed by any of the Butler Creek Steel Lips. Don't be fooled into any 50 rounders, not yeat anyway. none of them work , up to expectations. Now there is a aftermarket steel drum , looks like a Tommy gun drum, that is about 50 to 70 bucks, but i have not heard good or bad, on how they work.

Hey bama, check this forum out for some ideas:

Be sure to look at this thread, too:

That might get the brainstorm goin'.

A huge +1 here. Rimfirecentral will help you spend money to turn your rifle into whatever you want. Tack-driver, hunter, plinker, tacticool... etc...

I can't resist. I just gotta plug my 10/22 here... I went for a tacticool look. It's not as accurate as my Anschutz target rifle, but it'll shoot a 1 inch group at 50 yards.

It's a beauty isn't it! ;)

Thanks. :) I just shoot the cheap bulk ammo from Walmart in the 10/22. I save the match ammo for the Annie.

bamabluesman,

For magazines I like the Butler Creek Steel Lips 25 round mags. Mine work great. They also make a special loader for them. It works great and will save you alot of pain in your fingers. Also they won't get nearly as dirty from the ammo.

I'd drop a few aftermarket parts into the trigger group. I put in a VQ target hammer for $34 and it dropped my trigger pull from 8 pounds to about 2.5 pounds.
