Hello -- the take down screw hole on the 10/22 (that attaches the stock to the gun assembly) -- how durable is it? After repeated disassemblies, has anyone managed to strip it?

Would a titanium screw be kinder to the hole threads than the stock steel one?

They can be damaged. There are a couple of fixes if required. Heli-coil or drill and tap to a different size. Check out rimfirecentral.com for aalllll kinds of 10/22 info.

They can be stripped out, but I"ve only ever heard of it with the hexhead takedown screws and extreme (ie 4 foot breaker bar) torque.. The stock steel screw is pretty soft and the flat blade slot will get ruined far before the hole is damaged. as to long term wear. That should be fine, I have one receiver that's been taken down well over 300 times if I had to guesstimate. (I welded a wingnut to the takedown screw and staked the receiver pins to make a standard 10/22 a takedown back when the only other takedown option was the aftermarket integral v-block stocks)

I'm doing something wrong. When I purchased mine new, the barrel was marked "Made in the 200th Year of American Liberty" and I've probably disassembled it maybe 15-20 times.

Me too.

Mine was made new in 1967.
Serial #113,xxx.

And the screws still screw just fine.

I'm cautious about any threaded items on my firearm, which is why I use torque wrenches, rather than guessing. It's just too darn easy to damage something other wise. Even using an inexpensive torque wrench is better than guessing, IMO.

Just be sure one knows the difference between inch pounds, and foot pounds.
