10-22 takedown

Great information only problem is I've been trying to find one for two months. Seems everyone is out.

Do you really worry about that?
Discretion is never a bad idea. I don't like to advertise, be it guns or any other type of valuable, you never know who might be watching. Thieves look for easy opportunity and I don't believe in inviting trouble. If they don't know you have it they won't be tempted. I've worked very hard to aquire my guns, tools and other valuables over a significant portion of my life and don't want to loose what I have.

and I can carry it out the front door past my neighbors without flashing an obvious rifle case.

I'm a low profile sort of guy. I don't have NRA stickers on my car or front door, I don't wear Winchester tee shirts or Glock ball caps. Since I do travel a fair amount, I would just as soon not advertise the fact that there are guns in my house so as to avoid becoming a target for thieves.

Scope size really isn't that much of a problem if you utilize something like the Leupold QD rings/bases. I put a rather large 3-12X A/O mil-dot scope on mine with that system, the scope simply stores in the third bag pocket without an issue.

My gun came without sling swivel studs, how did you mount a sling on your's? I'm sure I can get studs glued into the stock(s) & use a set of QD swivels, just wondering if there's another way.

i epoxied the studs into the stock. you want a wood screw type for the rear and a machine screw/nut type for the front.

simply drill a hole slightly smaller diameter than the screw for the rear, mix up epoxy and let i run in the hole a bit screw in the stud and let it set up.

the front, you remove the barrel band, remove the barreled action and choose where you want to mount it. drill the hole, attach the machine screw stud with the washers and nut and either use loctite or epoxy to keep the nut on.

they make an attachment for the barrel band, but i don't really care for them. i can post some pics later if you want.

Mine is the Multicam model and it came with the brown/tan bag. I had to get that for desert shooting. Black gets so hot out there.

Another happy owner with no loss of zero. Barrel nut was adjusted, barrel removed then reinstalled, scope removed and reinstalled, zero POI shift.

Swivel stud, Pro Line barrel band w/1913 rails, EGW 1913 base, Warne QD rings and a Nikon 4X. Trigger was of course worked on, the only real negative as with any 10/22. Several people have used take off wood stocks on the TD with a bit of sawing of course.

If I might make a suggestion, I'd recommend QD swivel studs so that a sling can be removed easily, as with an AR 15. Plenty of room in the included red bag for scope, bipod, sling and magazines.

i have qd swivels but find that removing the sling isn't necessary when breaking down and packing the rifle in the bag.

skylerbone, i have to admit, i never really lied those blue stock versions, but the camo scope yours looks pretty slick!

take down ar? you mean a standard ar with separate upper and lower receivers? the rear sight in on the upper receiver which does not disconnect from the barrel which is where the front sight in located, correct? no reason you should lose zero when both sights are mounted to the same half.

Yeah, the squirrels never saw my son coming! Goofy, but what I had on hand, as it came from Nikon (shotgun scope, shorter parallax setting). Blue was the Shooting USA edition and what was in stock when I stumbled on it. Changed the bolt release and chamfered the bolt this weekend just because.

I've owned a number of 10/22's over the years but never held on to them. The 10/22 takedown is here to stay. In fact I bought two because the wife claimed the first one.

I'm on my second Grouse season with mine. They work great, multiple take-downs, travel, reassembly, competitions (including an Appleseed Rifleman score)... haven't had to rezero since the first sight in. The 10/22 TD is a keeper. Really like that multi-cam stock... might have to buy another.

This dude lived because he was sky-lined and I won't take that shot. His buddies weren't so lucky.

I love my take down. I had my barrel threaded and now can use a can on mine.

JustsayMo,

What sights do you have on yours? I really like the look of those sights.

Thanks in advance,

Charles
