100+ yard ranges

I would love to shoot 100+ yards (preferably 300+) with a bolt action rifle/ t/c encore. I need to find a place to shoot it before I can bear to let that much money go. Anybody know a place near Duluth Georgia? It seems I have to go waaay past athens to get to one. I was wondering if anyone has any land where that would be safe or if there is a place I could go. If so I would be more than happy to meet up and have some coffee to get to know you in person. I can understand not wanting to shoot with someone you dont know. I dont know anyone that shoots rifles and it would be nice to make some friends that I can go on shoots with. I shoot my air rifle 200+ yards on an abandoned golf course and given the foliage it is quite safe for a little air rifle but definitely not safe/legal to shoot a gun on. By the way I am 21 so that probably makes me a youngster on here. Thanks guys.

Nothing near Atlanta? That is a touch surprising, considering the number of .mil companies in the area.

Are there any military installations near you?

I know when I lived in New Jersey I used to go to the public outdoor range on Ft. Dix (Range 14) - their rifle range went out to 300+ yards. Maybe there are public ranges available.

It's not all that close, but Advanced Bullets in Temple, GA has a 100 yd range. They're located I-20 West; it's a little less than 1 hr from Atl. 100 yds is plenty to get you on target out to 300 yds or so. If you make the trip, talk to the locals (they'll be inside discussing guns, reloading, fine whiskey, ...). A lot of the guys around there have their own ranges on farms, power lines, gas easements; some streching out to 1,000yds+.

There's formal ranges, but the ones I know of require a membership and you have to get a current member to vouch for you.

Razor J, There is a club in the Gainesville area. The Cherokee Gun club I believe. They are Blackpowder as I recall, but possibly could help you find something in the vicinity. I'll try to get the correct name and contact info. CR cherokeegunclub.org
