Does anyone have any experience and opinions on shooting a Glock 29?
I have many times and find it is a great little gun. The design gives very manageable consistant recoil, and it holds 10 rounds in the magazine! The .45 1911 platforms modified for the 10mm hold less than that and are much larger.
The only thing some people have a problem with is the grip, which leaves a hanging pinky. However this little addon quickly remedies that issue:

I personaly don't find any problem whatsoever with the stock grip.
I'm in the market for a 10MM. Unfortunately I live in CA where my choices are further limited. I've never owned or favored a 1911 style firearm, but It looks like my choices are between the DW or the Kimber. I've shot Glock and just don't prefer them for me.. I'd LOVE to have a Witness, but they are not CA approved.
I looked at the same thing, however I would point you in the direction of the glock 29 as well. You see the 29 being much smaller still holds 10 rounds, the CA maximum. The 20 is nice as well, but there is no sense in having a larger pistol that is limited to 1/3 empty magazines, its just wasted space. The 29 seems almost developed for CA. You are not giving up any of its potential stock with only 10 rounds to comply with CA laws, unlike higher capacity handguns (why would anyone even want a 9mm in CA!). At the same time if you find yourself someplace that allows higher capacity it takes glock 20 magazines as well which come in 15 from the factory, and there is aftermarket ones approaching 30 rounds. If the normal glock ergonomics turned you off before, try the 10mm and .45 size pistols, they have larger grips and feel slightly different and may be more to your liking.
Your only choices in CA are the Glock models, or one of the two kimbers (and a SW revolver, looking at CA approved roster). The kimbers are larger and have an 8 round magazine capacity. They are designed around single stack .45s and so there is enough extra width room wasted to unnecessarily widen the grip, but just barely shy of enough to double stack them. The glocks were designed from the start for the 10mm and little is wasted. In fact the only Glocks designed arounda specific caliber are the 9mm and 10mm models, everything else is modified from those.
Yes I like the look and all steel design of the Witness as well, but those are not CA approved. Out of your remaining choices, I would take the 29 which is ideal considering the 10 round magazine law of CA. To top it off if you ever find yourself with a CCW (don't think they are possible for average people in Ventura county) like a new state or county, it has perfect dimensions for a carry gun.
If you are going to push extra hot loads through one though you will need an aftermarket barrel with more barrel support. However the stock one will take the dumb downed loads many manufacters offer and the normal high power 10mm loads such as those from Double Tap just fine. If you wish to go beyond pressure recomendations though get a new barrel.
