Does anyone know, off the top of their head, how may rounds of 45 acp 230 gr ball ammo would make 11 pounds?

thanks. I'm just being to lazy to weigh it right now, and just wanted to know how many rounds I couls plan on putting in my baggage. Southwest airlines only alows 11 pound of total ammo. :cuss:

I get about 68.6 gr on an unprimed 40 cal case. It's 7000 gr per pound, right? (I think) gives you a little over 3000 cases (assuming my math is on)

Looking to sell some?

i might bud, that sure is alot and i already have quite a few,let me get settled in and then i will be able to give you a better answer!

Southwest Airlines only allows 11 pounds of ammo.

That's pretty much universal for all airlines, but I've never known them to actually check the exact weight. As long as you declare you're carrying "a little bit of ammo in original containers" upon declaring your firearm, they don't sweat it.

[rant] Just think of it this way, how much ammo do you want in a pressurized aluminium tube at 30000 feet up when SHTF? What if a nearby luggage, (belonging to some idiot) is packing combustible hazmat? There are good reasons why there are limits on such items...same reason why they don't let oxygen bottles/generators on board with passengers with breathing problems; it's dangerous. Just give 'em a break and be thankful you can drag any of it along. :) [/rant]

I have already been hassled by TSA for trying to bring only 300 rounds or so of 9MM with me. When I pointe dout that the airline regulations allowed for so many pounds of ammunition the TSA guy told me he was in charge. I then went to the GSC (Ground Security Coordinator) and showed her the regs that I conveniently had on my person in printed form, and she took care of it. What befuddled me the most weas that I wa son official business, flying on a Secret Service detail, or maybe it was an Air Marshal detail that I was on something like that. They still hassled me over their own made up, on the spot and at the moment, rules.

Do yourself a favor, copy the TSA rules, copy the airline rules, and stuff those copies in your pants' pocket. Be polite if hassled. if not resolved, ask for the GSC.

All the best,
Glenn B

Ah yes, they love to do that. I'm also into photography and they hate it when I ask for my film to get hand checked (vs. going thru the x-ray). Quite honestly, I do not know ANYONE who is a fan of the TSA. Especially now with this no-liquids deal. I once brought a big pot of mashed potatos thru and one tsa guy had to check with a superior to see if it was ok. Another time some tsa lady had to molest my burrito, just after it passed thru the x-ray. :banghead:
