I've read that, to put a new Remington 1100 barrel on an old (35 years old) receiver, it is necessary to Dremel a bit off the barrel, and replace the piston and seal with different-sized parts.

Anyone have experience with this?

Where did you read this???
Let me debunk that myth. . . . . . .

I didn't have to do any of that on mine.

I put the "Competition Master" barrel on my 1972 model (I just got off the phone with Remington) 1100 and a new piston assembly (because the old one was pitted from lack of maintenance).
The new piston assembly is two pieces that snap together and stay that way.
(Pretty ingenious little assembly, I might add.)

The barrel slid right on. The old piston and seal pieces will interchange if they are in good shape. Again, I replaced mine only because the old ones were in BAD shape.

Now, the new design 1100 G3 (I think it's called) might be a different animal, but, there are so many 1100s out there, plus the Remington factory carries every part known to be used on the 1100.

All of the parts I bought came straight from Remington. No fitting at all.

I had the same experience as Keith. (mid 70's? I think) and the lost barrel was easily replaced with no issue. I got mine from Remington as well.

I'd wait before firing up the Dremel.
