I have an (well 3 actually) older Remington 1100 (about 35 years old) that I am looking to upgrade the barrel on. I am bidding on a newer vented rib barrel with remchoke (can darn near buy it new for what I will pay with shipping if I win).
I ran across something, somewhere about making sure I use the newer style seals with the new barrel.
Can anyone elaborate?

New barrels will fit fine, and the old style piston and piston seal actually seal gasses better. The newer style are cheaper to make. If one puts an old barrel on a new receiver, make sure you don't have the newer wider extractor, or you will have to open up the extractor slot on the barrel.
That in not an older 1100. :) I have three that are older and still going strong.

I've got an older 1100 and wouldn't mind a newer barrel with chokes to make it more versatile . Has a 30inch full choke now.. I'm between doin that since I already have an 1187 with a few in chokes

I had a guy named mike orlen thread my 1100 mod barrel for chokes. $35 for the threading and $20 per thinwall choke. And maybe 15 for return shipping. turned out pretty well. (I actually sent 2 1100 barrels and an o/u to save on shipping.)

New barrels are just too expensive.

I stopped my bidding at 195 and lost the bid. I am going to look around for the 26 inch barrel with remchoke elsewhere.

I bought a 26" Remington "Steel Shot" barrel for mine two years ago for under $200. It has Remchokes and a 3" chamber. Which allows you to shoot 3" steel shot only through a standard non-magnum reciever. I'm very pleased with it!
