I've read that, to put a new Remington 1100 barrel on an old (35 years old) receiver, it is necessary to Dremel a bit off the barrel, and replace the piston and seal with different-sized parts.
Anyone have experience with this?
Where did you read this???
Let me debunk that myth. . . . . . .
I didn't have to do any of that on mine.
I put the "Competition Master" barrel on my
1972 model (I
just got off the phone with Remington) 1100 and a new piston assembly (
because the old one was pitted from lack of maintenance).
The new piston assembly is two pieces that snap together and stay that way.
(Pretty ingenious little assembly, I might add.)
The barrel slid right on. The old piston and seal pieces will interchange if they are in good shape.
Again, I replaced mine only because the old ones were in BAD shape.
Now, the new design 1100 G3 (I think it's called)
might be a different animal, but, there are so many 1100s out there, plus the Remington factory carries every part known to be used on the 1100.
All of the parts I bought came straight from Remington. No fitting at all.
