Remington 1100 LT 20 Ga

Are Monte Carlo style synthetic stocks and forends available for 20 guage 1100s? I am able to find standard syntheic stocks but not the Monte Carlo style for 20 guage.

12 Gauge / 20 Gauge

I was told the 20 and 12 stocks were the same. The forends have to be different. Anyone know about interchangeability of stocks on the 1100s?

AFAIK the stocks are interchangeable on the original 20's, but not on the LT's, which have receivers scaled to 20 Gauge. The first 20 Gauge 1100's were essentially 12 Gauge receivers with smaller barrels and magazines; what you have heard probably applies to those only, not the LT models.

Ask Remington. Their support is good, both phone and on-line. FAQ's already contain some info about the 1100 20 Gauge variants over the years (I think the change occurred in the late '70s).

Search their FAQs or ask more questions yourself. Also call them with your serial number, and they can tell you exactly what model and year you have.

Something from their FAQ's that will answer your question, AFAIK:

The Model 7400 and Model 7600 are both offered with a Monte Carlo style stock, which allows you to use a scope more comfortably. However, if you wish to change to a straight comb stock, we do offer wood and synthetic stocks which are interchangeable with these models. Current 20 gauge 870, 1100 and 11-87 butt stocks interchange. You may order one of these stocks by filling out a parts order form HERE or by calling our parts department with a credit card at 1-800-243-9700 M-F 9-5 EST.

You can get whatever you want here: http://www.wenig.com/ Not cheap, but really nice.

Or contact these guys; they're less expensive: http://www.boydsgunstocks.com/

It's easier to find a Monte Carlo stock labeled "7600/7400" but it should fit on your receiver. Ask Remington to confirm that the LT is the same as the "current 1100"; I think it is, but they know for sure.

But, praytell, why? The LT-20 is such a fine little field gun as-is.

Reason

If it were an un-altered 1100 LT 20, I would leave it alone. I have a gun my wife used, purchased with a shortened butt stock. I'm a long armed 6'2" guy and I want to use it myself. I just thought the Monte Carlo stock might be more functional. Maybe I should just buy a used original stock and sell the smaller shortened one. Thanks for the info. Any more ideas?

I bought an old cut-down 1100 Magnum 12 Gauge. I picked up a used but decent original stock set on eBay for $50. That's what I'd recommend.

I kept the short one, too, but I may sell it. I don't know if my wife will use the thing, but it's become my favorite gun for upland hunting. LT-20 is next purchase, if I find one for a good price.:)

The LT-20 stocks are smaller at the receiver end. My bride shoots an 1100 Special Field which is essentially just an LT-20 with an English stock. This gun is really fun and handles like an old 336. I bought her a longer barrel and she uses it on the sporting clay course now. Great guns!

What?

I have decided to look for a used 20 gauge walnut stock on the auction site I love to hate. This might take years as I am finding that large frame stocks are readily available and 20 gauge small frame stocks are as rare as hen's teeth. In the meantime I would buy synthetic but I still cannot find affordable replacements for a small frame 20 gauge 1100. Remington has them but not cheap like after market kits readily available for 12 gauge large frame guns. For some reason, there is little demand for the 20. The 7400 rifle stock would work, but then I have a stock as short as the one I already have. I want to buy a $60 kit including synthetic butt stock and forend for my 1100 LT. Any ideas?

Funny

I just asked a very similar question on a different forum http://www.shotgunworld.com/bbs/viewtopic.php?t=94424. i have yet to even find a full size synthetic stock set for mine. did you say that you knew where to get one? i would prefer the straight(english?) stock but realize i am in no situation to be picky. please pm me with any new info you find. thanks, and good luck in your search!!

One last option.....
