1100 vs 1187

Ok teach me something, what is the difference between a remington 1100 shot gun and a remington 1187 shot gun?

I believe the 1100 has a fixed gas system and the 1187 a self-adjusting one enabling it to shoot both standard and magnum loads.

Also, the 1100 seems to be loved by the skeet and trap crowd while the 11-87 is hated as being heavy and slow. In the duck blind, though, I'd rather have the 11-87, but I'm no skeet shooter, either.

My 1100 has an adjustable gas system. Swap the barrel and voila, it works with 3" shells.

Unless you don't know which shells you will be using, it works fine that way.

Lighter version -- slightly lighter than a similar 1100, AFAIK. Polished blue, walnut stock, engraving.

1187 Premier vs. 1187 Sportsman is like 870 Wingmaster LC vs. 870 Express.

Except I have an Express; I'm not too interested in the Sportsman. But most birds I've ever pursued live on dry land. If I sat in a duck blind and wanted heft for heavy loads instead of a quick gun for flushing quail, it'd work.

Well, the heft isn't just to soak up recoil. It also makes for a smoother swing on predictable birds that you see coming and have time to get up on. 2 3/4" steel will kill ducks over deeks, though. Mostly, I want the 3" stuff in hevi shot when I'm laid out in white coveralls in a rag spread callin' the snows.

I find a 49" gun that weighs 7.75 lb. to be plenty smooth enough. Somehow my old 1100 manages to be smooth on predictable targets but quick enough for rising quail. If you can hit that combo just right, you've got a great shotgun.

I don't need a field gun to weigh quite what my trap gun does. But I don't shoot lying down, sitting, crouching, etc.
