this gun fits but i'm hesitant due to many low opinions of the 1187. since this is a 2 3/4" gun, is it comparable to the 1100? should i consider it for clays?

I personally have a very high opinion of the 11-87. My 11-87 premier gets used almost exclusively for clays. Cycles the light loads just fine. If the price is right, go for it!

1187SC is a good gun. Are there better autoloaders? Yes, but that doesn't mean there's anything wrong with the 1187. Hardcore clay shooters who shoot tens of thousands of rounds per year would probably prefer the Beretta 391 for long-term durability. But for a casual shooter, the 1187 will last a long, long time. Just remember to replace the o-ring occasionally and carry a couple of extras in your shooting bag.

Gun Tests still likes the 11-87. Just reviewed it again.

The 2 3/4" target gun should be comparable to the 1100, nearly identical. I don't think it has a valve to bleed off extra pressure, even.

Long-term durability? No problem. Carry an extra O-ring. For a few bucks, you can get a bag of 'em on eBay. My 1100 Magnum is 35 years old. Works great.

I wouldn't get the Sportsman, but the non-cheapened 11-87 is a fine gun, with many happy owners.

thank you for your comments. can any of you tell me a fair price for this shotgun?

thank you for the info. the one i'm looking at is blued with 6 extended chokes and does not show much use. are there any inherent weaknesses to check for? will this firearm be as reliable as a 390? is $500 a fair price? responses greatly appreciated.
