hello all,
I am working on a hunting load for a 6.5 but the fastest I'd be able to push it would be about 2350FPS at the muzzle. allowing myself a conservative minimum of 1000FTLBs of energy to do the job, I can expect a max effective range of 225 yards, which will leave my velocity at about 1900FPS.

my question is will a Nosler partition reliably open up at those velocities or should I keep looking for something else? I've tried 120gr nosler E-tips but they don't open up enough for me to feel comfortable hunting with them.

Note: I don't know why I always forget to include this info. this is for a 6.5 grendel, it can't handle heavy bullets, factory options are extremely limited.

Nosler says 1800fps.

What are you Hunting and at what distance?

I shoot the 100gr Barnes TTSX in my Grendel at 2700fps, works well on MN Whitetails.

I am in the process of testing the 100gr Partition, my only concern is the exposed lead tip, IME the lead tip doesn't hold up well in an AR action.

I hunted MN Whitetails with the 120gr Ballistic Tip, never again. No more Ballistic tips for me YMMV.

I hate mentioning this as it almost always ends with people telling me to pick a different caliber but I intend to use it for cow elk. need a little bit better expansion and weight retention than WT hunting.
