im thinking of buying some of that for my romanian ak. i never had a malfunction but i also never shot 154 gr soft points in it.

I've not shot a lot of it, but it worked fine in my converted EAA Saiga.

Try a few boxes before ordering cases of it :)

I have a couple of cases of Wolf 154 grain SP's I got for cheap from the Sportsman's Guide a few years ago, and my old SAR seems to really like it. its accurate and no feeding issues.

I lucked out and got a good lot here. Most of my experience with Wolf has been hit or miss.

I've never had a lick of trouble with Wolf/Tula/Monarch/BrownBear. The only "Russian" ammo I've had issues with was the Golden Tiger that many rave about. Functioned fine when it went bang but way to many failure to fire in non-AK guns like my Mini-30, SIG-556R, and AR-7.62x39.

That is where I got mine as well.

If by reliable you mean will fire and cycle, don't think you'll have any issues. Feeding with AK is all about the magazines. Occasionally some rifles have challenges feeding hollow point rounds and it's not uncommon to see the soft point get mangled a bit. Best best is pick up a single box at a local store and try them before you load the boat.

If on the other hand your question is about reliably expanding, that is not a given. I have seen so much variability I don't think there is a solid answer. The jackets on these bullets are bi-metal steel and fairly hard. Sometimes you get a nice mushroom. Other times the lead tip simply flattens flush with the end of the jacket becoming a defacto semi wadcutter or truncated cone with deep straight line penetration which though lethal isn't the best thing for hunting game animals.

That said I personally like shooting them. Still have bunches of old Wolf and some of the new Herters (headstamp is Tula) 154 grain soft points from Cabelas.
