154 gr. Wolf in a SKS anyone ?

Had failures to feed over 20 rounds in my SKS. Haven't tried it since. FWIW, the lighter SPs have no problem.

I use the 154g SP's since they're cheap enough to practice with, and use as a hunting round. They're also more accurate than 122g Barnaul in my gun, the only other round I've tried.

I've never had problems in normal operation with my Yugo SKS. The only time I had an issue was when I turned off the gas port and tried shooting it as a straight-pull bolt action. Had an FTF and mashed the SP tip. Don't try everything you read on the internet.

No problems with the heavy Wolf in either SKS or SAR-1. But I'd think twice before using the heavy Corbon in anything with a gas system.

I have read that 150gr. laods in semi-auto's is too hot and can damage the action.

Did fine in both the AK's I shot it in. When the 154gr managed to finally function in the full auto AK for about 10 rounds, it knocked me around a good bit. Fun stuff:cool:

hundreads of rds through my norinco sks without any issues, i have also found that it is more accurate than any other stell cased ammo that I have tried especially in the ak.

i have read in many articles, including quotes from mr. Ak himself, that the action is not made for 150 grn carts. It beats em up over time.

How unusual. My only issue with shooting my Yugo with the gas port turned off is the little gas-knob gets HOT when you've been shooting for a bit :cuss: ...otherwise no functional problems with any ammo.

I need to bring gloves next time.

154 gr Wolf

I just got my hands on a few boxes of soft point at the last gun show. I haven't had a chance to try it yet, but I'll ONLY use Wolf in my Yugo SKS. I've found it to be about the cleanest with this firearm (no copper build up), plus, it's CHEAP. Always seemed a no brainer to me.....

I seem to hear a lot of bad things about the Wolf stuff in the American rifles. I always used the rule of thumb of "Russian ammo for commie guns, American ammo for American guns".

Just scored some Wolf .223 for my Mini 14 GB, but haven't shot it yet. Any input?

Sure. Shoot it. Have fun. :D

You won't win any competitions with it, but it's fun plinking/blasting ammo. Certainly worth the money.

Also, it's advised that you clean the chamber of carbon residue before you switch to firing brass-cased ammo. In some cases, it's been reported that the steel case of the Wolf ammo doesn't seal up quite as nicely as brass, so a little bit of carbon gets into the chamber. No big deal if you keep shooting Wolf, but if you switch to brass immediately afterwards, it'll expand as designed and (according to Old Painless from TheBoxOTruth.com) it can become stuck. Just clean the chamber after shooting Wolf, and you'll have no problems.

I need more cheap ammo! Sadly, my budget is running low.:cuss:

Did you guys know that 154 grain soft point ammunition was designed as a medium to heavy game cartridge for ranges not exceeding 150 meters?
Ballistically the cartridge is a twin of the .30/30 Winchester to that range.
Past 150 meters the velocity and energy drop off at an accelerated rate.
At 300 meters the velocity is down to about 100 meters per second and the energy levels aren't much better than a hard thrown softball.
This ammunition was specifically designed for Russians market hunters who routinely use sporterized SKS rifles.
No harm, no foul.
Sanctioned herd culling shooters are issued semi automatic versions of the AKM and they also shoot the 154 grain stuff.

I find the Wolf 7.62X39 ammunition to be fairly consistant and a decent buy.

I wish I could say the same for the rest of their cartridge offerings but cannot.

And this comes from a chronograph or a marketing chart?

This comes from Wolf Customer service, In my CZ it chronies a bit faster at an even 2200 FPS I attribute this to not having any gas bled off to power the action.

krochus,
thanks for that info i always wondered about that particular rds performance! i have started buying that rd exclusivly because they are only a few dollars more, and they are more accurate then the 122gr fmj's and hp's, i like em.
