Anyone tried shooting a 17 HM2 through a .22 suppressor? I've read the little HM2 doesn't have much higher pressure than the .22. The manufacturer (Tactical Innovations) basically said that they rate them for .22, they they recommend that you only shoot .22, but that many customers have been successful in shooting other calibers through their .22 cans.

If you value your warranty, only do it on a can that the manufacturer recommends that ammo through. The SWR Spectre is multicaliber, so you may want to look at that.

Not sure how much it'd silence, since HMII is no where close to sub sonic.
It'd get rid of most, if not all of the muzzle blast, and sonic crack isn't even that loud in .223(similar to a .22LR), so I'm sure 17HM2 would be comfortable to shoot without ears(depending, of course, on the location you shoot).

My only concern would be whether or not the bullet is large enough for the suppressor to work adequately. That said, the pressures themselves are about the same, yeah.

Neither is supersonic .22, but it suppresses the muzzle noise on those.

Subsonic ammo is not necessary for suppressors to work, and work well at that.

I may get one eventually, but they weigh twice as much as most .22 cans.

I understand the little round won't suppress as well as a .22, since the round is smaller in comparison to the hole it is going through, but I doubt I'd get baffle strikes and the pressure shouldn't be an issue, so I was wondering if anyone else had done it.

Former moderator Al Thompson was involved with state-sponsored deer culling some years ago. He's mentioned that he's fired .223 through .308 cans, and that it works somewhat- just not as well as a dedicated .22 can.
