Thinking about getting a .17 wsm for coyotes at night since we are restricted here in Mi. to rimfire after dark. Anybody actually use one on yotes and how did it do. Thinking in the 100 to 200 yd range with 25 grain ammo.

I have not used it for any hunting, but I do own the rifle and really like it once i changed the stock (especially now that ammo for it is no longer hard to find).

However, I have seen several videos and read a few articles of people using the .17 wsm to take coyotes (either with the affordable savage b.mag or the luxurious Franklin Armory .17 wsm AR)

"The first coyote my hunting partner and I called in came barreling to within 50 yards of our setup. As quickly as the sound of the 17 Win Super Mag cracked the still air, the coyote went down like a ton of bricks. No tracking was needed. Upon examining the critter up close, I was impressed with the lack of damage to the fur. The next coyote we called in…caught us moving. The animal came to a screeching halt just over 150 yards away. I squeezed the trigger and watched as this varmint dropped in his tracks as well.”

Seems to be an effective varmint round in either 20 or 25 gr

An amazing cartridge for sure! Works great on coons, coyotes, annoying birds, crows, etc. Nothing i have shot has needed a second shot. I shoot only the 25gr it seems to shoot better in my rifle.
