Trigger has already been modified to single stage, and I don’t like it. I’m going to order the Huber in the next few days. It’s about my only choice.

I am happy with Liberty Tree. Communication was good, and I got the bolt in 5 days. I’m gonna have to do a bit of grinding for it to clear the rear Williams sight, but it won’t be bad.

The original triggers on those old Mausers can actually be tuned to be quite nice two stagers. The issue can be getting new trigger springs. You might also give a call to Timney, it lists the M91-94 Sportsmans Trigger as in stock but no compatibility information.

I contacted Timney a couple days ago, and they told me they don’t make a trigger compatible with the Argentine. I wish they did because Timney is gtg.

Liberty Tree has original 2 stage Triggers for $10. I’m decent polishing an AR trigger, but don’t have much experience with bolt guns. What would I need?

Same stuff that you are already using, most stock AR triggers are similarly case hardened. Check and polish your sear as well as trigger pins. Light pressure only, remove any ridges and or machining marks, polish the top and sides, and the holes. See if you can get a look at the actual trigger you will be getting as some have been rode hard and put up wet. Others are practically brand new.

One additional trick, https://ads.midwayusa.com/product/2594145924/sentry-solutions-smooth-kote-dry-lubricant
when you reassemble the trigger and sear.

I typically use india and ozark stones. Need to get the Spyderco ceramic ones but haven't done much trigger work recently.

Ordered the Huber Concepts Trigger today. The owner actually answered the phone and talked to me for about 20 minutes. I was impressed by his knowledge of how these old rifles operate.

I'd imagine that he would have had to try out models that he put his trigger into.

I don't have one but I have read reports from users on other forums that it does clean up and lighten the trigger pull nicely on small ring mausers at least. With increases in my hand neuropathy this year, I simply can't really "feel" fine differences in triggers anymore and it also is bringing to a close doing much gunsmithing.

I’ve had back and neck fusion, rotator cuff surgery, and carpal tunnel surgery on both wrists, so I know where you’re coming from. Getting older sucks sometimes, but I’m thankful to wake up every morning!

I hear you. All of those surgeries that you had are pretty rough and glad that you are well enough to enjoy your new rifle.

Installed the Huber Concepts Trigger today, and it made a big difference. Pull weight was cut in half, and with the ball bearing it’s super smooth. Installation was fairly easy with common tools.
nice the trigger looks good for the money. id like to try one in my 91 but trying to find a double set trigger. huber makes real good triggers id like one in my 700 but there like $450 they are two stage witch in like. we need some up dated pics to.

I’ll try to get some pics, but the Huber trigger looks just like the factory one. It’s adjustable for creep and overtravel, and I’ve got to do some experimenting to get it right.

Here’s a pic of the Huber Concepts Trigger installed. After some adjustment it broke at 2 1/4 pounds on my Wheeler gauge. I’m extremely happy with the Huber trigger. It’s owner, John, helped guide me through some fine adjustments, and even called me back the next day to make sure that I was satisfied. How’s that for customer service!!!!

One of the reasons these old Mausers tend to have bad triggers is that they are cock-on-closing. Running the bolt fast can result in the sear releasing as the bolt is closed. To prevent that, they are designed with a LOT of engagement between the bent and sear. You want to maintain that engagement with any replacement trigger..

That’s one thing John Huber told me how to adjust during our phone conversations, and I do recommend anyone who buys one of these triggers to call him.

The one thing I did that made my 91 trigger nice was to cut a coil or two (don't remember - did it one at a time, may have stopped at one) from the trigger spring. I cleaned up and polished the surfaces on the receiver and trigger/sear carefully, and it is perfect. Maybe 2-3 lbs or so, but not too light, and definitely not too heavy.

Congrats :) . You straight up stole that beautiful Chilean Mauser. Around here that would be nice for showing up the 308 Fanboys at the range and perfect for deer hunting from horseback. I really like my 1891' Chilean & if you hand load for this you can get 308 accuracy all day long & imo you'll never find a smoother bolt action than a nice Chilean :) ...

View attachment 799362 View attachment 799363 I recently pick up this sporterized 1891 Argentine Mauser. It has Williams sights, 22” cut and crowned barrel, and a Fagen walnut Monte Carlo stock. It’s still in the original 7.65x53 caliber.

Whoever did the work on this rifle was a true craftsman. Wood to metal fit is great, and the barrel is free floated. Estimated weight is around 6 pounds. I’m thinking it was probably sporterized in the 50’s or 60’s. Metal has a dark gray patina that’s very interesting.

I’ve only shot PPU 180gr soft point so far, but it’s very accurate. I’m planning on reloading for it as soon as I get some dies. I think I did well for $150.
