I have a 1903 A3 Springfield that I would like to shoot more often, but I have arthritis in my hands and shoulders.

The new recoil pads help on my newer rifles. But I don't want to modify this classic.

I though about a slip on pad, but the dimensions (4 3/4 x 1 3/4) don't seem to fit any pads (that I can find). I was wondering if anyone else has run across this problem, and how they solved it.

Go to ebay and type in 1903a3 in the search, every once in awhile there is a grenade launching slip on recoil pad for sale on there. You can keep the gun orig. and authentic and have a recoil pad that is made for the rifle.

I have a Pachmayr slip-on that fits on my '03A4. Had to cut the sleeve a bit to fit around the sling swivel though. Mind you, I doubt any pad will lessen the pain you'll have with arthritis. You may want to look into reducing the load.

+1 on the PAST recoil pad. I wear the magnum one when shooting heavy recoiling rifles, and it damps it right down.
They are excellent.
