Just picked up my 1911... I'm impressed so far... I'll do the picture thing in a few... Just had to get it out there that it's in my hand... One thing right outta the box... It looks like they've done a great job of replicating the post 20ish era model... No name bling just the facts... Fit and finish seems really good for a $300 steel frame pistol... Now I'm gonna take it to the range and see what it does... All the info in this thread is awesome... Plan on taking it slow and steady at first... Update shortly
I seem to have missed which 1911 you got . . . Care to share?

It was a clearence Tisa 1911A1 SDS Imported replica circa 1925ish... For $315 including tax and shipping... (Shout out for Centerfire right...lol) And my FFL only charges me $20 for the transfer....I wasn't actually looking for anything... Just a marketing email from centerfire systems a week ago... Been loading for 35 years and doing a little of my own work on my firearms for about the same period of time... The 1911 seemed like a good platform to get past the crazy going on over the last 2 years... And seeing all this info... I'm looking forward to the challenge...

That's the only thing I can actually see... The slide seems to be just a shade different in color... I'm probably overating my ability to learn...lol but I eventually wanna do some "finishing"... I've done a muzzle loading kit years ago... And some touch up stuff... and a couple of my ARs in "interesting" color coatings... But never an actual full on "renovation"...

I already drop my gun on dirt. So, I think I’m going to strip it with Airplane paint stripper and buff wheel it shinny, then figure out how to cold blue steel

Ok people....here's the deal....got my 1911 all fine n dandy....read ALL the posts and ideas... MAGA thanks to everyone who posted their insights... Oops MEGA thanks... All I've done so far is replace the grip panels... I just keep looking at this hunk of metal... An inexpensive clone of the original design that's over 100 years old... And I take it out, rake the slide... Look at it... Handel it... Literally wonder the history of those that used one... Some may call that "gun porn" (my wife does)... Guess I'm guilty as charged... the older I get the more I appreciate the little things... 100 year old gun porn... Dang that's prolly so wrong on so many levels...lol... However I have gotten my list together....when I break down and realize it's just metal... then I think the real fun and feeling of accomplishment will begin... I think I'll shoot it tomorrow...

I just picked up a very lightly used RIA 1911-A2 9mm/22tcm combo a couple weeks ago for $450. I just got a chance to take it out and shoot it yesterday. I will definitely be replacing the sights with some fiber optic 3 point sights. Other than that I am very impressed with how much gun I got for the money. I am spoiled with long target triggers on my other 1911's and might replace the trigger one the RIA with a longer one if I can find one the fits. The break on the factory trigger is clean and only a little heavier than my expensive triggers on my other 1911's.

100% Ultra MEGA!!!, it just metal! BTW… CMP is at round 3 of military surplus 1911’s. Want to own a real piece of American history

This weekend I took my newest Tisas 1911A1 Army to the range and alternated shooting it next to my newest Colt Govt model. The Colt edges it out a bit in fit and finish, but they were pretty close in terms or accuracy and ease of shooting. The sight alignment on both was spot on.

I can't praise these Tisas (SDS) 1911s enough. I have 3 of them (2-5", 1-4.25") and plan to acquire more different models to try. To me the Tisas has just the right sized footprint in the hand compared to the added dimensions of some of my fancier 1911s. The Colt feels like an extension of my hand and the Tisas is pretty darn close to that, too. Your mileage may vary.

I always say the T-sauce SDS is a well fitted shooter! that’s it really. 1911 starter 100%!

but this is my 5th 1911…. and it’s BOMB

SDS should send money to THR, we are propping uP their guns HARD

So, bought a Tisas Tanker.

Looks great!
Mine is at the FFL waiting to be picked up. I hope it shoots as well as the Army models I have.

I shot one of my Tisas Army models side by side with my Colt Govt model this weekend and was more than pleasantly surprised how well and accurately it shot. It also cycled every type of ammunition I fed it flawlessly. I could not be happier and hope the Tanker is just as fabulous. Next on my list are a couple of 9mm variants.

I have a brand new Tisas Army model.

I polished the disconnector rail with fine 320 grit paper, took off the coating and made it nice and shiny, and there are some pretty deep tooling marks, how do I get those out?

Any advice would be much appreciated.

You probably can't without upsetting the dimensions. There are a lot of 1911s out there with tool marks and stamps on the rail. If you got off the burrs, it will be ok.

Thanks, i did think i could without taking off too much metal. I will run over it again with the sand paper and make sure it is as smooth as I can make it.

Thanks again,

James

I am new to this level of maintenance with a 1911. What all do I need to be polishing, or do you have a handy link to another post here on this topic?
Thanks, James
here’s one James, just need a dremel, flitz, and felt tips. All on Amazon. YT is starting to purge gun how to’s. So find the original source sites and book mark them
