1911 Break In

Ok so now Kimber owners are gun snobs? I always thought it as the Wilson, Nighthawk, Ed Brown, and Les Baer guys. :neener:

I actually have to agree a bit with you Dark. I can't believe it! :D

I just had a post with my 1911 failing to chamber the last round in my magazine. It was either limp wristing, or the magazine, which many felt the cause. I had Chip McCormick 35 dollar magazines! I thought they were never supposed to fail. I've only had it for 3 years.

To be fair, they were 8 rounders. Either way, for 35 bucks I'm pissed.

Now the mags that came with the gun work flawlessly.

no offense, why are you running such cheap mag's through a 1,000k+ gun? Just makes no sense to me.

Mags are pretty much binary in function -- either they work or they don't. I've a bunch of the cheap 7-round "GI forgeries" and after throwing out a couple initially they've all worked fine for years in a variety of 1911 pistols.

I've never found the need to spend more than $15 for an 8-round 1911 mag.

How much is your life worth?
More than six dollars...

Cheap mags are great for range work. I've used GI knock-offs and asian mags in mine. I lost two baseplates for the GI mags and one for the asian mags. I found all the ammo though...

For CC, I've been using Metalforms lately, and Wilson 47s before that.

IMO using a $6 magazine in a Kimber is like having a Cadillac painted at Macco...

Second 1911 came with 2 magazines.

Both work fine in my Combat Commander, and the colt magazine that came with the Combat commander (which would not feed well) works wonderfully on the new to me springer.

So, now I have 2 spare mags for the springer (all of them 8 round mags) and one 7 and one 8 rounder for the combat commander.

Meh ... it works out at the end.

Glad your K works. Mine needed some help but its getting there. Multiple fails to feed and jams.

The mags my CDP came with were absolute garbage and whoever desighned them deserves Glock foot. With all the time that must be spent building a 1911, I don't get how they could cheap out on mags. Its a critical component. It would be fair to assume that Glocks mags are half of why they are so reliable.

The K followers scratched up the inside of my frame bad. I caught it before the got hold of my ramp.

Switched to Wilson and Tripp Cobra mags. I strongly recommend checking out Tripps site on why 1911 mags do what they do.

I switched to an 18lb spring in my 5" CDP, Polished the ramp and recoil rod. Detail stripped and Lubed as per Wilsons DVD and switched to decent mags.

So far so good. I think break in is a cop out. Sure the guns will run better once they're broken in, but they aren't going to magikly fix themselfs.

I've always used factory mags for my Colts and Springfields. They continue to work great. I try to buy the best I can for what I got, so it lasts. If someone wants to use cheap mags in an expensive gun that's their perogative. There is a hint of gun snobbery in threads like this one. After all the flailing he got about the cheap mags, if the cheap mags fail, he probably won't be warning others not to do what he did. So others won't benefit from his experience. If he doesn't run 300 rounds a day out the cheap mags, they may last for some time. But today must be one of those conflict producing days, because I read cat and dog fights all the over the Forums, over dang near every little thing. Carry on...

For long term durability. You buy a magazine for function, not to save a couple bucks. If the gun is strictly for range use, then it doesn't matter if the mags work or not.

Let us know how long those $6 mags hold up for you.

i got 8 mags from CTD for $6 each, out of those 8 only 1 give me problem (Fail to Feed) the other 7 works great out of a RIA Tactical.

Where can I find those Ralph Lauren mags? I'd hate to go to the range and not have my fashion accessories be coordinated . . . :what:

But for how long ?

(and now they are $7 magazines, tossing out that bad one. If you shoot much, I suspect you'll soon have one $48 magazine. Soon after that, you'll have a $48 experience)
