Most of us, if we carry a 1911 pistol, carry it cocked and locked. Many holsters, though safely covering the trigger, will certainly allow the safety to be disengaged while the pistol is holstered.
Which holsters will cover the thumb safety while the pistol is holstered? I know the Milt Sparks "Watch Six" body shield would seem to fit the bill. Can you think of others?

Thanks

Hi,

There are many holsters which incorporate a body shield which keeps the thumb safety from moving. You can go to the holster maker web sites and see them - Sparks, Bulman, Del Fatti, etc.

Most good holsters with a body shield incorporate a detent in the body shield to seat the safety in, with the safety in the "SAFE" position. That certainly helps keep the safety where it should be but if you are determined, you can have the safety in the "FIRE" position. I have 3 Max Con V's and all three have the detent and all firmly secure the safety in "SAFE". I wouldn't carry any 1911 in anything but cocked and locked.

For my 1911s I have a Spark's SS2 and a VM2, both have a slide guard that can prevent the safety from moving.

When I first get the holster I place the gun in it, safety on. I then rubber band the slide guard to the gun as tight as I possibly can. In a few days the safety makes an indent in the guard. Once done, I cannot slide of the safety off while wearing the holster.
