1911 hammer bite, and other 1911 questions

The Alchemy Anomaly has NO hammer spur.

I think it was the 1986 GUN DIGEST that had a story from a writer who "converted" a model 41 S&W to more of a field/carry gun, and he took off (cut/grind) the back of the slide and frame to expose the internal hammer. In that story, there was a reference to "what's not there cannot bite you", and there was basically no spur at all at the back of the frame.

I've been doing that to my 1911's (except one of 'em) for a very long time.... back before it was hip to call the Colt Government Model, or Commander or Officer's a 1911. What ain't there cannot bite you. And that is the truth. Maybe some pistolero types wince at follow up shots and stability and what not. I don't care about that sort of thing, as I'm not shooting silhouettes at some fixed distance. If I ever have to yank out a pistol in defense, I'm certain it will be a ranges so close that sort of thing won't matter.

That was knifemaker Bob Loveless. He also considered the M41 thumb safety unusable (I agree) and went squirrel hunting in Condition 3.
I had a chance at one of those at a pretty good price but the store burned down before I could make the 100 mile trip.

Is that really the only explanation? Could you give me some workout tips? I’m not bone skinny but I’d love to resolve the hammer bite issue. Is there a hand diet perhaps, maybe shrink them down to 1 XL.

A bit late, but get the beaver tail. I'm not big or fat but I always instinctively want to grip guns high for recoil control. I get slide bite from Glocks if I don't beaver tail them, and absolutely need them on 1911s as well.

If I ever got really serious about my Hi Power I'd have to send it in for a beaver tail as well.

I wear L/XL gloves.

I’ve never had a problem with hammer bite on any of my 1911’s which all have beavertails. I’ve never had a hammer bite problem with my BHP’s which do not have beavertails.

The Glocks will all slide bite me without the Grip Force Adapters on the Gen3 17 and 19, and the large beavertail backstraps on the 19X and the Gen4 21.
